Pregunta:
Mis dudas son sobre todo respecto a el uso de "the other" & "the others". Realmente no sé cuándo usar uno y el otro…Viendo las
oraciones fácilmente lo veo, pero en los ejercicios me ha costado un poco captar cómo diferenciarlos. He buscado información y creo
que me he confundido más.
Necesito una explicación teórica que me ayude a poder diferenciarlos bien y realizar los ejercicios sin titubear. Aquí dejo algunos
ejemplos donde no sé cuál colocar. ¡Muchas gracias!
*Some lenguages are easy to learn; "others" are hard.
*I'd like to go your party tonight, but i have "other" things to do.
*Dr. Alber teaches chemistry. He teaches "others" subjects too.
*some people smoke cigarettes; "the others" smoke cigars.
*six students are absent today, but "the others" are here.
*Some of de exercises in our english book are easy, but some of "the others" are very hard.

*Some lenguages are easy to learn; "others" are hard. Oración correcta. Others funciona como pronombre en plural sustituyendo a
"some languages".
*I'd like to go your party tonight, but i have "other" things to do. Correcto. En este caso "other" funciona como adjetivo plural que
acompaña al sustantivo "things"
*Dr. Alber teaches chemistry. He teaches "others" subjects too. Incorrecto. En este caso deberías usar "other" porque funciona como
un adjetivo plural que acompaña a "subjects" y "other" es la forma del plural (ver cuadro).
*some people smoke cigarettes; "the others" smoke cigars. Correcto. En este caso funciona como pronombre plural.
*six students are absent today, but "the others" are here. Correcto. Funciona como pronombre sustituyendo a students.
*Some of de exercises in our english book are easy, but some of "the others" are very hard. Correcto. Funciona como pronombre
plural.
En fin, tienes que saber cuál es la función que desempeña. Si acompaña a un sustantivo será un adjetivo y si va sólo funcionará como
un pronombre, es decir, sustituye a un sustantivo que podrá ser singular o plural.
