TESORO de la Macarena MACARENA´S Treasure Audioguía The Basilica of La Macarena is dedicated to the Virgin of Hope or La Macarena, a universally worshipped effigy which has devotees all over the world. The brotherhood had its origins in the late 16th century, with the temple where it is currently located being blessed in 1949, after being housed in various churches over its more than 400 years of existence. Also worshipped in the temple are the effigies of the Lord of the Sentence and the Virgin of the Holy Rosary. Its five extensive halls spread over three floors give an overview of the history of the Brotherhood, and even Holy Week itself; its connection with the district, the city and all the places where devotion to La Macarena has reached; the activities carried out by the corporation in the present day; and the origin of the devotion to its effigies. The visit ends with a chance to contemplate the procession floats, mantles, tunics, skirts, crowns and other features of the famous procession in the early hours of Good Friday.
