INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR IMAGINING OTHER FUTURES Curators María and Lorena de Corral, Catalina Lozano and Aaron Moulton came up with this title to celebrate a special year for ARCOmadrid in which rather than inviting a guest country, there will be an analysis and review of the last 35 years of ARCOmadrid. On the occasion of the Fair’s 35th edition, the development of international contemporary art in the Iberian Peninsula will become our focus. ARCOmadrid will invite galleries, institutions, professionals and art collectors who have participated in the last 35 editions both to pay tribute and to celebrate this particular year, in which the objective is to revisit the past while at the same time projecting the future through the new contemporary art generations. 35 YEARS FROM 35 GALLERIES The 35th anniversary of ARCOmadrid 35th will celebrate the Fair’s journey from past to future, with a selection of galleries curated by María and Lorena de Corral, Catalina Lozano and Aaron Moulton. 35 galleries from different countries will be invited to participate in the “Imagining other futures” section with projects by two artists in each stand. A dialogue between artists from different generations explaining their experience at ARCOmadrid and others describing how they envisage their own future, will take place. This section will be a forum on the last 35 years of international contemporary art and will showcase a projection of the what’s coming future decades AIR DE PARIS Dorothy Iannone, Sarah Pucci ALEXANDER AND BONIN Eugenio Dittborn, Robert Kinmont ANNET GELINK Ed van der Elsken, David Maljkovic BÄRBEL GRASSLIN Günther Förg, Imi Knoebel CASA TRIÂNGULO Ivan Grilo, Manuela Ribadeneira CRISTINA GUERRA Filipa Cesar, Lawrence Weiner CHANTAL CROUSEL Mona Hatoum, Danh Vo CHRISTOPHER GRIMES Kota Ezawa, Allan Sekula ESTHER SCHIPPER/ JOHNEN GALERIE Christoph Keller, Daniel Steegman Mangrané FORTES VILAÇA Rodrigo Cass, Jac Leirner FRANCO NOERO Lara Favaretto, Simon Starling FRITH STREET Massimo Bartolini, Tacita Dean JAN MOT Mario García Torres, Ian Wilson JUANA DE AIZPURU Eric Baudelaire, Rogelio López Cuenca KRINZINGER Günter Brus, Angela de la Cruz KURIMANZUTTO Gabriel Kuri, Gabriel Sierra LELONG Etel Adnan, Nalini Malani LISSON Dan Graham, Jorinde Voigt LUCIANA BRITO Waldemar Cordeiro, Raphaël Zarka LUISA STRINA Alexandre da Cunha MAI 36 Franz Ackermann, Manfred Pernice MARIAN GOODMAN MARTIN JANDA Joe Scanlan, Donelle Woolford NÄCHST ST. MONDAY FEB. 1ST The celebration of the Fair’s 35th anniversary provides an opportunity to thank over 160 curators who have cooperated with the fair throughout these years for their generosity and legacy through a forum that will be celebrated on Saturday 27th of February. CÍRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES On February 1 we will start celebrating ARCOmadrid’s 35 years with the help of those who have played key roles in the Fair over the course of these years. Paying homage to the Fair’s long history is the main goal of this event, which will be hosted on February 1 by the Círculo de Bellas Artes. We will analyse these 35 years of history through several presentations and round tables with art critics, galleries, artists and art collectors. At the end of the day, a commemorative cocktail will celebrate the Fair’s great history with its main players. See you there! AÑO 35. MADRID ARCOmadrid is spreading into the city on the occasion of its 35th anniversary. The project curated by art critic Javier Hontoria, aims at using both typical and atypical contemporary art spaces in various city locations. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The objective of Año 35. Madrid is to highlight Madrid’s public institutions. The project has been designed for the artists to underline and stress the identity of each setting. The works presented in these locations aim at challenging the Museums’ disciplines as many of these institutions do not have any connection to contemporary art, such as the National Museum of Archaeology or the National Museum of Anthropology, and also at proving that all practices can be approached from synergic and non-exclusive perspectives. GENERAL INFORMATION Moreover, since contemporary art will be the element bringing together all the institutions, its importance as a tool to analyse our world from different vantage points will be confirmed. And of course, other objectives are to create unity among the city’s institutional elements and to rethink how we perceive culture in Madrid.
