A legal and economic think-tank:
The Foundation for Research in Law and Business (FIDE) is a collective project launched by
civil society with a clear and defined purpose: to create a shared reflective network within the
worlds of law and business. FIDE’s solution is to promote communication, investigation, and
the acquisition of information among different economic, political, and social agents
worldwide.
FIDE is an organization that broadens intellectual perspective and is not limited by frontiers;
instead, it is empowered by dialog and the only hierarchy in place is one that values the quality
of an argument. FIDE’s activities create a law and economics think-tank which aims to tackle
relevant issues that are plaguing the minds of professional, legal, economic, and
governmental communities.
Among the issues discussed through FIDE are: existing laws, legal interpretation, legal
application, legal drafting, amendments, revisions, business issues, and the economy. FIDE
serves as the common ground where these issues can be discussed, so that coherent, strong,
and practical solutions are formulated and examined through calm reflection and analysis.
The wide repertoire of activities, forums, seminars, workshops and conferences that we offer
to our collaborators and associates serves as the biggest indicator of our initiative and success.
Each activity has been possible thanks to the active participation of civil society, ranging from
the top management of corporations to partners from law firms, from university experts to
judges from the courts of justice, from public administration leaders to lawyers and
economists; all of which, are sought and appreciated by FIDE.
It´s organization is structured around a governing board, an Academic Counsel, and a
business advisory council.
Fide´s Governing board:
The governing board is responsible for the general management. Its main function is to ensure
the realization and fulfillment of the foundational purposes, define the best strategy to
achieve these purposes with the satisfaction and fulfillment of economic and administrative
needs of the Foundation.
Fide´s Academic Council:
It´s integrated by more than 100 members. Each member represents Fide´s ideal of academic
and professional excellence and their professional commitment and profound implication
with FIDE is the best guarantee to achieve our goals.
Fide´s Business Advisory Council:
Fide´s Business Advisory Council is the evidence of this collective compromise. They constitute
the major asset of Fide, with their financial, intellectual and personal contributions; they make
possible the development of each activity that Fide organizes.

WORK AREAS
Throughout the academic year economic and legal issues are analyzed and debated, as well as those
related to the scientific field, that we consider of interest to professionals that integrate and participate in
the Foundation.
Fide develops its activity around twenty different work areas that include the main topics related to
Law, Business and Science. Each year Fide arranges around 300 sessions on different issues and hot
topics.
This is not a closed catalogue of fide, we want to identify knowledge in a practical sense, and this is the
reason why evolution to reality marks our academic definition.

They are the essence of Fide, our identity. They are intellectual meetings characterized by high quality
and freedom. In this sense we believe we have established new ways to converse.

Sessions
These sessions are Fide ´s answer to the increasing demand of different sectors to undergo an
examination legal and business aspects that require a particular analysis.
Foundation for Research in Law and Business

13

Sessions with International Experts
The desired objective of these sessions is to integrate professionals in Fide with global and
international views of the current economic, legal, and business in a globalized market with
challenges, problems, concerns, and common solutions.

In collaboration with other institutions
Fide establishes business relationswith prestigious institutions through specific collaborations whose
synergy contributes to the achievement of common objectives of excellence and rigorous analysis of
the business, professional, and academic reality.

Science and Law Dialogues
Attending to the intense influence scientific and technological advances are having in our society,
Fide and Garrigues Foundation have decided to collaborate closely in the research of this process.
They have developed debate sessions with the objective in mind to detect those innovations that
claim an urgent response from the legislators and a crucial law contribution. All the topics discussed
in these sessions open new horizons and propose big questions with profound implications for the
law. In every historic period, the judicial estatement has assumed the realities and the challenges of
the time and it will have to do so again now. These sessions are not to direct, control or limit the
scientific advances-task which is absolutely impossible- but to know more closely and deeply the
current development as well as its potential. There is a need to minimize the knowledge gap that
affects our world at the academic, legal and professional level.

Books and other publications
In Fide we organize research studies of different topics that have been published subsequently
because of its significance. As a consequence of research works advanced by its authors, we develop
work sessions in which these reports are submitted to discussion and analysis with other experts
previous to publication, which enriches the work. In addition, Fide´s impact is captured in various
relevant articles and publications in the media. Throughout the year we have had the opportunity to
meet for the presentation of books and other publications about diverse current topics, many of
which have been subject of debates in forums and sessions in Fide.

Art in Fide
The relationship with art was born from the desire reinforce the ties between art, Fide and its
environment with the conviction that knowledge society and energizing culture is essential
nowadays. Attending to the cultural curiosity of the members of Fide, we organize activities related
to literature, music, and other humanistic areas.

Think Tank and research studies
One of the principal aims of Fide is to generate ideas for the future. In this sense, using an elaborated
draft, different sessions of debate are organized reaching final conclusions from all the sessions,
creating a document for publication and diffusion. These sessions pretend to achieve a deeper
analysis of specific issues.

In company
Fide makes educational sessions available to public and private businesses, law firms, consultancies,
and institutions, designed based on their needs and creating a highly specialized program for each
topic.
Fide´s Methodology:
All the activities Fide organizes follow the same methodology to develop debates, independently of the
final format of the session.
Foundation for Research in Law and Business
www.fidefundacion.es
14
We initiate a discussion with senior professionals, from businesses, law firms, and the Public
Administration, where very current topics are analyzed from all perspectives and with all the interested
profiles in the topic. All the sessions organized in Fide are convened under the Chatham House Rule, where
all participants have the right to use the information they receive, but the identity and affiliation of another
participant cannot be revealed.
