Racing was plagued by light, shifting winds, which challenged even the most experienced sailors. However, after a two-hour postponement, racing started in the three race areas just after 2.30 p.m., with two races being completed for the RS:X boards, 3 for the 49ers, 2 for the Laser Standard, 470 M, 470 W sailors and 1 for the Laser Radial W and Laser Radial M. Local sailor and member of the Spanish pre-Olympic team, Juan Manuel Moreno, ended the day at the top of the leader board in RS:X Men, after taking first place in both races. Moreno proved to be impossible to beat in conditions that meant the windsurfers needed to draw on their experience to finish at the top of the fleet. Tugaryev (UKR) finished in second place, followed by Joan Carles Cardona, the Spanish sailor from the Balearic Islands. The RS:X Women fleet was dominated by three of the top women windsurfers in the world: Alessandra Sensini (ITA), followed by Moana Delle (GER) and Bryony Shaw (GBR). The RS:X Youth Men’s class was dominated by Vicente Castello (ESP), followed by Damia Ferrer, both from CV Formentera, with local sailor Borja Carracedo in third place. The Laser Standard class ended the day with Jordi Capella (ESP) and Pablo Guitian (ESP) at the top of the leader board. Joaquin Blanco (ESP) is in third place, while the sailor who will be representing Spain at the London Olympics, Javier Hernández, is in 5th place going into the 2nd day. There were no surprises in the 40er fleet, with Federico and Arturo Alonso notching up three firsts after a poor start with an 8th in the first race of the day. The pre-Olympic sailors are going into the second day a comfortable ten points ahead of the French crew of Ribeau and Scotto de Fasano in second place, who are tied with Dyen and Christidis (FRA). The Laser Radial classes only managed one race each today after several general recalls. In Laser Radial Men, Van de Lock (BEL) finished 2nd, but given the Jury decision for the winner of the race, Slap (BEL), means that he is the overnight leader. The current number 1 in the world, Evi Van Acker (BEL), is in second place behind Francesca Clapchich (ITA) and ahead of Nufar Edelman (ISR). The provisional podium for the 470 M class has Fantela/Marenic (CRO) in first place, followed by Kliger/Sela (ISR) and Ginar/Turkish (Tur) in second and third place, respectively. The crew who will be representing Spain in Weymouth, Onan Barreiros and Aaron Sarmiento, finished the day in 9th place, after notching up a 13th and 7th in the two races of the day. .
