El Registro mundial de buques de pesca, transporte refrigerado y suministro
(Registro mundial) es una iniciativa de aplicación voluntaria, gradual y
colaboración mundial destinada a facilitar información a través de la identificación
de los buques y otros datos pertinentes con el objetivo de proporcionar una manera
rápida y fiable de comparar los datos con otras fuentes. Incluye los buques
pesqueros pero también otros buques que participan en actividades de pesca.

Fishing operations
El principal objetivo del Registro mundial es proporcionar un instrumento eficaz
para prevenir, desalentar y eliminar las actividades de pesca ilegal, no declarada y
no reglamentada (INDNR), y volver esta actividad más difícil para los buques que
operan fuera de la ley.
El Registro mundial puede crear sinergias con otros instrumentos internacionales como el Acuerdo sobre
medidas del Estado rector del puerto y las Directrices voluntarias para la actuación del Estado del pabellón.
El Registro mundial fue aprobado por los estados miembros de la FAO a través de su Comité de Pesca (COFI)
como uno de los principales instrumentos mundiales para combatir la pesca INDNR.
