Consultancy was set up focusing on Intelligence and Defence Logistics. In the middle of 2008, the ATENEA Group project was begun with a multidisciplinary team founded on the professional expertise and experience of its members, both nationally and internationally. Our digital newspaper aims to promote internet debate on topics affecting awareness of defence. For this we rely on the invaluable contributions of our readers which help enrich our content in what is a unique publication in its genre. SECURITY AND DEFENCE INDUSTRIAL OBSERVATORY Throughout its five years in print this publication has consolidated its reputation as one of the group’s most prestigious. Now as a section in our online newspaper it will continue to be exclusively dedicated to news selected from current events related to trends in organisation, arms systems, equipment, logistics, health in the field, trade fairs, the Ministry of Defence and armed forces as well as news related to companies involved in security and defence. Each magazine issue includes a summary of all the previous month’s content. SECURITY AND DEFENCE companies catalogue Until 2010 this was a biennial publication. During this time it became a useful resource for firms, government bodies and organisations, located in government offices responsible for decision-making, acquisition and contracting in the Ministry of Defence and the three arms of the Armed Forces, the Ministry for External Affairs and Cooperation, Interior Ministry, and the Ministries for Trade, Commerce and Tourism. It is distributed in eighty foreign countries through their embassies and those of Spain abroad. As such, our Debate Forums are meeting points for relevant figures to speak on topical issues with the aim of generating the basis for the debate that follows. Our aims with regard to HOMSEC are: nTo strengthen and consolidate leadership of the HOMSEC fair. nTo act as a meeting point between public administration, centres for research, development and innovation and national, European and international industry, with special emphasis on Latin America. The aim is to achieve the largest concentration of companies and centres specialising in sector technology for the display of new technology and innovations. nTo be the appropriate brand for businesses to seek new possibilities for business and collaboration with those in charge of governments and public administration, the armed forces and State security bodies. EXHIBITIONS Those exhibitions that are smaller than the trade fairs aim to provide a space for the presentation of products or services related to a specific area within the sectors of security and defence. These exhibitions are combined with related round table discussions and conferences. CONFERENCES The conferences are international meetings on one of the areas directly related to security or defence, lasting longer than one day. At these, a proposed topic is debated in order to find conclusions and applicable solutions and they take the form of round table discussions or conferences in which national and international figures from universities, public administration and businesses involved in the sector act as moderators, speakers or guest lecturers. MEETINGS BETWEEN companies AND GOVERNMENT These events aim to provide a meeting point for the worlds of research and innovation (universities, technology centres, R&D departments etc.) and companies in order to exchange knowledge and find areas of shared interest. They are oriented towards investigation and seeking and creating a framework for highly important technological dialogue where the culture of innovation is encouraged. 15 TRAINING The Training division works in close collaboration with universities to carry out courses and seminars aimed at professionals for specific training to improve their skills within the company. Master’s in Project Management Organised as a joint collaboration between the University Francisco de Vitoria, GSGFe San Fernando Group and the ATENEA Group. A taught master’s degree of 600 hours including the option to prepare for PMI/IPMA/PRINCE2 accreditation exams. This course is aimed at professionals, with or without experience in project management, directors and businessmen and women as well as recent graduates who wish to develop their professional careers in this area of management. It is of special interest to personnel in the armed forces and security forces or professionals in the security and defence sector. A demanding Master’s programme preparing for the ISO 21.500 regulation on Project Management. 16 16 Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Intelligence Organised as a joint collaboration between the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria and the ATENEA Group: a course of 200 class hours aimed at directors, executives, professionals in the areas of marketing and sales, organisation and innovation or graduates and qualified personnel who want to branch out into this field. A comprehensive vision for executives and governments: Economic Intelligence is of interest for those who make decisions given the need to know about the development and trends in technology, markets or clients in order to plan objectives and the necessary strategy to obtain them. It is aimed at managers and professionals in strategic planning, marketing and sales departments, organisation and innovation, information systems and human resources. Master’s in security systems engineering Organised as a joint collaboration between the University Francisco de Vitoria and the ATENEA Group. E-learning training of 600 hours aimed at engineering graduates who wish to develop their knowledge of management and administration of private security as well as technical knowledge. The training is given on a virtual campus with part-time attendance and online tutorials. This system means it is accessible to students or professionals living abroad or in any region of Spain. On completion of the course students are given a double qualification: nEngineering Master’s in Management of Security Systems from the University Francisco de Vitoria. nDiploma in Security Management from the University Francisco de Vitoria, recognised by the Spanish Interior Ministry. SEMINARS · We organise tailor-made seminars on Economic Intelligence and Management of Talent for VIPs or companies. 17 17 Our board of directors JOSÉ LUIS CORTINA PRIETO President or the ATENEA Group and CEO of I2V LTD José Luis Cortina Prieto is the CEO and majority partner of the consulting firm I2V Ltd., developer of the ATENEA Group he chairs. He holds numerous diplomas and military specialities including General Staff, Special Operations, Command of Parachute Units, Tanks, Intelligence and Counter Intelligence, Revolutionary Warfare etc. As a civilian he has completed various university courses in Political Science, business, organisation and methodology, logistics and international higher education. He has held military assignments in armoured units and at the Intelligence Division (Joint General Staff) and later to the Spanish Intelligence Agency (CESID), which he collaborated to create, where he remained for more than twelve years as chief of operational activities. During over forty-five years of active service in the Army he has held numerous responsibilities including Deputy Chief of the Joint General Staff, Chief of Joint General Staff and Head of the Planning Division. In activities related to organisational studies of the Armed Forces he has been responsible for or has participated in: leading the work of the team who designed and organized the current Joint General Staff (with the creation of the Operations Command), the Centre of Operations of Joint General Staff, the restructuring of the maintenance of the Army, defining the Army Logistic Support System, as well as various teams to systematically review and update the functioning of the Army. With regard to management he has been in charge of planning and organisation of the Joint Combined Exercises of the Spanish Armed Forces, Secretary General of the Logistic Support Command of the Army, Maintenance Director of the latter and National Representative for Spain in the Logistic Agency of NATO (NAMSA). Graduated from the Army General Staff School, from the Combined General Staff and Expert in Logistic Management for the North American Army (Fort Lee Virginia). In addition to Spanish decorations, he has received the Medal for Distinguished Services to the North American Department of Defence, the Minerva Medal from the Chilean Army and the Military Merit Cross from the Portuguese Armed Forces. director@grupoateneasd.es jtamarit@grupoateneasd.es 18 JOSÉ ANTONIO GARCÍA GONZÁLEZ Director of Institutional of Relations The retired Army General (Fourstar General), José Antonio García González, is currently Director of Institutional Relations of the ATENEA Group. Army General García González, who had reached the highest position in the Army served uninterrupted for forty-six years in active service. In his last active assignment he held the Command of the Spanish Army as Chief of Army Staff from 2004 to 2006. Coming from the Engineers branch, he has been posted to distinguished units such as the Parachute Brigade, or the Specialities Engineers Regiment nº 11, which he commanded. His numerous and smooth relationships with the armies of many countries, mainly in Europe and America, led to him to award various distinctions, including the “Legion of Merit” in his rank as “Commander” from the United States; and the “Legion of Honour” with the rank of “Commander” from France. He is also an Honorary Doctor of the Polytechnic Staff College of the Army; and a member of honour and Gold Medal Holder from the Official College of Armament Engineers. As an officer he was sent to the former Spanish Sahara and mountain units. He was a professor in the Central Military Academy and Deputy Military Attaché to the Spanish Embassies of Brussels and The Hague. As Lieutenant Colonel he created the School for Tactical Intelligence of the Army. Previously he had led the Engineers Battalion of the Parachute Brigade. In spring 1991 he was Head of the Spanish Mission in the allied General Headquarters in the operation “Provide Comfort”. He was Second in Command of Army General Staff and then Chief of the Joint General Staff. His final assignment in active service was as Commander of the General Headquarters of the SE Group of NATO. He is a general staff graduate from Spain and United States. In 1999 he joined I2V Ltd as Logistics Director where he has continued as Executive Director of Consulting at the ATENEA Group. He has managed and coordinated multiple studies and projects for the Armed Forces and Spanish companies. He was Technical Secretary for the Logistic Division of the Army General Staff from where he contributed to the logistical reorganisation of the Army. As expert in logistics, he trained in this area at the Army General Staff College and through courses in the United States and NATO. He has various diplomas from the Spanish Army, such as those of the General Staff of the Army and of the US Defense Department and NATO related to logistic and technical management and decisionmaking, command and control and management of acquisitions of the US Army. He entered the General Military Academy of Zaragoza in 1967, receiving the dispatch of Engineers Lieutenant in 1971. As a Lieutenant and Captain he held operational posts in different units. As Lieutenant Colonel, he was posted to the Organisation and Planning Division of the Army General Staff, where he participated in the development of the restructuring of the Army (Plan Norte) and was Chief of the Engineers Battalion of the Armoured Brigade. As a Colonel he was Chief of the Engineers Regiment nº 1 of the Mechanised Division, and later Chief of the Strategic Section of EMACON (Joint Defence General Staff ). Once promoted to Brigadier General in July 2002, he was assigned as Chief of the Military Strategy and Cooperation Division of EMACON (Joint General Staff ). In July 2005 he became Division General and was named Head of the School for Advanced Defence Studies of the CESEDEN (Centre for Advanced National Defence Studies). He joined the Reserve in July 2009. He has given lectures at numerous courses and seminars as well as publishing more than one hundred articles on topics related to international affairs, strategy, security and defence. Divisional General Argumosa is a Graduate of General Staff, Command of Parachute Units, Communication and of NATO Defence College (NADEFCOL).
