FRANCE WERE EXPORTING THE WINES PREVIOUS THE
FRENCH

MODERN WINE BUSINESS. AROUND THE 1850 ALL
THOSE VINEYARDS IN BORDEAUX, WERE ATTACKED BY
THE FILOXERA, AND

CAME OUT,
DYING DAY BY DAY. THE FRENCH’S, WITH THE
BUSINESS IN HANDS, START TO LOOK FOR A SIMILAR
TERROIR, TO PLANT THE VINEYARDS AND FOLLOW UP
THE WINE MARKET.

THE CLIMATE CONDITIONS, SOILS PROPERTIES ARE
SO EXCELLENT; THEY ALLOW TO PRODUCE SELECTED
WINES IN THE AREA.

OUR WINERY IS PLACED AROUND 10 KM. FROM HARO,
THE MOST IMPORTANT SPANISH CITY FOR WINE, AND
WE HOLD AN SMALL CHATEAUX WINERY SURROUNDED BY ITS OWN VINEYARDS AN ESTATE.
OUR LOCAL CONDITIONS: HIGH DIFFERENCES OF
TEMPERATURE BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT, ALLOWS
THE GRAPES TO HAVE A HIGH PRODUCTION OF
POLYPHENOLS, CREATING MORE STRUCTURE, COLOR
AND AROMA IN OUR WINES.
AS WELL, THE CONDITIONS OF COLD AND RAINY
WINTERS, IN CONTRAST WITH DRY AND HOT SUMMERS,
PLUS THE CALCAREOUS AND STONY SOILS, OF OUR
LAND, MAKES OUR PLACE IN AN EXCELLENT TERROIR
TO PRODUCE HIGH-QUALITY WINES.
THE WINERY WAS FOUNDED IN 2001 BY A FAMILY FROM
SAJAZARRA (OUR TOWN), AND WAS ACQUIRED BY THE
CURRENT PROPRIETORS IN 2008, STARTING A STRONG
PROCESS OF MODERNIZATION AND INTERNATIONALIZATION FOR OUR WINES.

SINCE THE NEW PROPIETORS WERE LOOKING FOR A
TOP WINE PRODUCTION, THEY HIRED ONE OF THE
BEST WINEMAKERS IN RIOJA: MR. BASILIO IZQUIERDO.
MR. BASILIO IZQUIERDO, WAS ONE OF THE FIRST
OENOLOGIST OF RIOJA IN STUDY AT THE BORDEAUX
UNIVERSITY, UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF MR EMILE
PEYNAUD, THE MOST RECOGNIZED OENOLOGIST OF
THE WORLD IN THE MODERN ERA.
MR. BASILIO IZQUIERDO, WAS FOR 30
YEARS THE WINEMAKER DIRECTOR OF
CVNE, ONE OF THE LARGEST COMPANIES IN
HARO, IN THE BARRIO DE LA ESTACIÓN.
UNDER HIS DIRECTION, THEY FOUND “CONTINO”, ONE OF THE MOST VIBRANT WINE
PROJECTS IN SPAIN. IN THE 1975 THEY SET:
SINGLE VINEYARDS, HIGH-QUALITY AND
EXPENSIVE WINES, FULLY INTERNATIONAL.
TODAY CONTINO IS RENEWED AS ONE OF
THE MOST IMPORTANT BRAND FOR WINES
IN SPAIN. DURING THIS TIME HE GOT THE
AWARD OF “THE BEST WINE OF THE
WORLD”, BY THE DECANTER MAGAZINE, AS
WELL AS:
• BEST WINE OF THE WORD IN
PRICE/QUALITY RELATIONSHIP (WINE
SPECTATOR).
• PRINCIPAL RED WINE FOR THE SPANISH
PRINCE WEDDING´S DINNER (2004).

1889; Champagne Robert Moncuit tiene una larga
