- PPT: no reading (note cards OK, but
only for reference)
- Video: well-rehearsed and produced
• Intelligible: we can hear and
understand what said
• Enthusiastic
• Timed well (more than three, less
than five minutes)
• For pairs: equal division of work,
and good interaction
TIMELINE:
1. (late March) Introduction of project; start thinking about whether you’ll be working alone or with a partner;
for those who know, assignment of country/region and opportunity to begin considering potential topics
2. (April 6) Let me know whether you’ll be working alone or with a partner; assignment of country/region;
begin researching region to come up with three potential topics (see “TOPICS” section below)
3. (April 8) Deadline to e-mail me three potential topics; include in the subject of your e-mail these three pieces
of information: your name(s), your class and "Tres temas posibles"
4. ( - - - - - ) As soon as your topic is approved and you confirm the topic that you will be presenting, move
forward with research
5. (April 25) Final date to have topics approved and confirmed
6. (Optional: no later than one week before presentation date) E-mail (minimum) three sources (to be) used in
research (see “SOURCES” section below)
7. (May 6, 8, 11, 13, 18, 20) Presentations. Bring your presentation on a memory stick or CD/DVD. If your file is
less than 10MB, I recommend that you also e-mail it to me at least 24 hours in advance as a backup.
TOPICS:
After you’ve been assigned a region, you’ll need to do a little bit of research in order to come up with three
possible topics. There are four criteria for the topics. They must be:
1. Related to your assigned country
2. About something that is not well known
3. Something that you can present in 3-5 minutes with the level of Spanish that you and the class have
4. Related to something about which you're passionate (or at least interested)
Note that these need to be specific topics, not categories. Categories look like this:
- The music from [country]
- The food and restaurants of [country]
- The government of [country]
- The etiquette and customs of [country]
- The history of [country]
The following are examples of topics (all refer to France-- this is just to give you an idea of the specificity that I'm
looking for. Yours, obviously, will refer to your country):
- (food) The restaurant that serves only cheese in Paris: its history and what kinds of dishes it serves
- (music) Raï music in France: its roots and importance
- (traditions) The medieval festival of Provins: how it began and what it's like
- (people) Arthur Rimbaud: his short life and the importance of his influence on modern literature, music and art

You must use a minimum of three reputable sources for your presentation.
Where can you find reputable sources? Part of your OCC fees gets you access to a treasure trove of online resources
that would normally cost much more. Click below to access them; you'll need your OCC student ID number.

How do you list your sources in your presentation? Use the free (non "pro") tools at http://www.easybib.com to
easily format your sources in MLA (Modern Language Association) style.
Where do you list your sources? For PowerPoints, list the sources that you used for your information on your last
slide; for video, put them at the end in the credits. For any images that you include in your presentation, ideally,
you should indicate the source right under the image. Otherwise, you may indicate the sources of all images on a
final slide (for PowerPoints) or in the credits; note the image to which each source refers
