January 2015. Provisional data
8,229 mercantile companies are created in January, 8.2% less than
in the same month of 2014, and 2,882 are dissolved, 12.3% less
The Autonomous Communities with the greatest business
dynamism1 are Illes Balears (16.2%), Comunidad Foral de Navarra
(15.5%) and Aragón (14.9%)
8,229 mercantile companies were created in January, that is, 8.2% less than in the same
month of 2014. The capital subscribed for their constitution exceeded 586 million euros,
representing an increase of 10.3%. The average capital subscribed (71,291 euros) increased
20.2% in its annual rate.
On the other hand, 4,006 mercantile companies increased their capital in January, 8.2% less
than in the same month of 2014. The capital subscribed in the increases dropped by 13.3%,
and exceeded 5,057 million euros. The average capital subscribed in these transactions
(1,262,408 euros) decreased 5.6% in its annual rate.
The number of companies dissolved in January was 2,882, 12.3% less than in the same
month of the previous year. Among these, 78.8% did so voluntarily, 7.6% due to mergers and
the remaining 13.6% for other reasons.

Performance of the monthly rate
In order to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of the data, the following chart shows
the variation in the number of mercantile companies created and dissolved between
December and January in the last five years. In 2015, the monthly variation of the number of
companies created was 9.9% and that of the companies dissolved was 18.7%.

Results by main economic activity
22.8% of the mercantile companies created in the month of January corresponded to Trade
and 15.2% to Construction. Regarding the dissolved companies, 22.5% corresponded to
Trade and 19.0% to Construction.

The economic activity with the greatest net balance of mercantile companies created was
Trade, with 1,236 new companies.
On the contrary, Administrative and support service activities registered the lowest net
balance, with 143 companies created.

In turn, Information and communications presented the lowest capital subscribed, with 4.19
million euros.

Results by Autonomous Communities
The Autonomous Communities with the greatest number of mercantile companies created in
January were Comunidad de Madrid (1,672), Cataluña (1,661) and Andalucía (1,397).
Conversely, the Autonomous Communities where less mercantile companies were created
were La Rioja (34), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (67) and Cantabria (76).
Regarding the dissolved mercantile companies, the Autonomous Communities that
presented the highest number of dissolutions were Comunidad de Madrid (729), Andalucía
(449) and Cataluña (304).
In turn, those with the lowest number of dissolutions were Comunidad Foral de Navarra
(seven), La Rioja (26) and Cantabria (27).

In terms of annual rates of the number of mercantile companies created, Illes Balears
(16.2%), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (15.5%) and Aragón (14.9%) recorded the highest
rates.
In turn, La Rioja (–39.3%), País Vasco (–30.3%) and Galicia (–18.4%) registered the
greatest decreases.
Regarding the mercantile companies dissolved, Castilla-La Mancha (37.7%), Aragón (5.6%)
and Andalucía (1.4%) were the only Autonomous Communities to register positive rates.
In turn, the Autonomous Communities registering the lowest annual rates were Comunidad
Foral de Navarra (–77.4%), Canarias (–25.3%) and Extremadura (–24.0%).
