Doc. 31/2013 RESOLUTION OF THE IAB 43RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPECTRUM DEFENSE WHEREAS: The administrations of the countries have allocated a large number of frequency bands to telecommunications services, in many cases at the expense of broadcasting services. CONSIDERING: 1) That free, over-the-air broadcasting is one of the main means of distribution of culture, information and entertainment for most of the population, specially the underprivileged ones. 2) That over-the-air radio and television are available for the vast majority of the residents of the respective countries. 3) That the migration of broadcasting services towards the next technological generation in digital format will certainly require the use of new spaces in the electromagnetic spectrum, as it happens with telecommunication services. THE 43rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTING IAB - MEETING IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL, RESOLVES: To urge the administrations and the communication secretariats to reserve spaces in the electromagnetic spectrum for the sustainability and natural development of broadcasting according to the new technologies.
