• Lávese las manos y póngase los guantes.
• Coloque el paño estéril debajo del catéter.
• Frote con alcohol por 15 segundos la punta conectora del catéter y
deje secar por 15 segundos.
• Quite el aire de la jeringa de solución salina.
• Conecte la jeringa de solución salina al catéter.
• Abra la pinza del catéter.
• Enjuague con solución salina en un solo movimiento rápido.
• Cierre la pinza del catéter.
• Desconecte la jeringa de solución salina.

Conecte la medicina o el suero al catéter.
Prenda la bomba y comience la infusión.
Abra la pinza del catéter.
Quítese los guantes. Lávese las manos o use gel desinfectante.

Lávese las manos o use gel desinfectante. Póngase guantes nuevos.
Desconecte la sonda del catéter.
Frote la tapa con alcohol por 15 segundos y deje secar por 15 segundos.

medicine
or IV fluid
•Attach medicine or IV fluid to the catheter.
•Turn the pump on and start the infusion.
•Unclamp catheter.
•Remove gloves. Wash or gel hands.
•When infusion is complete, clamp catheter.
•Wash or gel hands. Put on gloves.
•Remove the tubing from the catheter.
•Scrub cap with alcohol for 15 seconds and dry for 15 seconds.

•Remove air from the saline syringe.
•Attach the saline syringe to the catheter.
•Unclamp catheter.
•Flush with saline.
•Clamp catheter.
•Remove the saline syringe.

Heparin

•Wash hands and put on gloves.
•Place the drape under the catheter.
•Scrub the catheter cap with alcohol for 15 seconds and dry for 15 seconds.
•Remove air from the saline syringe.
•Attach the saline syringe to the catheter.
•Unclamp catheter.
•Flush briskly with saline.
•Clamp catheter.
•Remove the saline syringe.
•Remove air from the heparin syringe.
•Attach the heparin syringe to the catheter.
•Unclamp catheter.
•Flush with heparin.
•Clamp catheter, then remove syringe.
•Attach DualCap.
•Remove gloves. Gel hands.
