Study Program Diagram
After 3 (three) semesters, i.e. 18 months, having
completed the first two on-campus stages and
the stage for the formulation of the thesis
statement, the candidate is ready to begin the
Doctoral thesis, the extension of which may vary
according to the task and within the time
restrictions determined by the regulations of
UNL.
By the time a regular candidate who holds a
Master’s Degree completes all courses and
submits the thesis, the amount of time devoted
to their studies at the start of the Doctorate
Program will be between five and six years.
Those candidates who hold different degrees
are supposed to have devoted nearly as much
time to obtain a Ph.D. Degree.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES AND PROFILE OF THE GRADUATE
The overall aim of the Doctorate in Public Administration is to produce university graduates of the
highest academic level in their field, within a framework of excellence and scientific rigour. Our
graduates are competent professionals whose standards in public administration are comparable
to similar national or international experiences.
The specific objectives include the production of high-status academics for teaching at graduate
and postgraduate levels, who –at the same time- will be able to produce resources of high quality
for their teaching activity and for the transmission of knowledge. Furthermore, the proliferation of
scholars devoted to the production, reproduction and increase of the existing knowledge by
means of research and the training of human resources for research is intended. Our graduate’s
profile should meet those objectives. Apart from having thorough and deep knowledge about the
“state of the art” of the field covered by the program, graduates must prove to be original with
their contributions to and perceptions of such field, which will win them the highest academic
degree: a Doctorate.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Graduates from university study programs of a duration of four years minimum, from Argentinian
or any legally acknowledged university in a foreign country, may be admitted to the Doctorate in
Public Administration program.
When applying for the program, candidates must submit a detailed CV and all the documentation
that allows the Academic Committee to evaluate their academic background in order to accept
or reject their admission to the program. If necessary, candidates will be interviewed. Moreover,
competence in a foreign language will be required.
According to everything above mentioned, the Academic Committee will check the admission
requirements and the candidates’ academic record.
The admission possibilities are:
Direct admission: students with a Master Degree in Public Administration or Public Policies,
conferred by Argentinian universities which are legally acknowledged, or any other degree which is
regarded as similar in terms of contents by the Academic Committee.
Conditional admission based upon satisfying the acquisition of extra credits as required by the
Academic Committee:
a. University graduates who hold a postgraduate degree different from the Master Programs
already mentioned
b. University graduates and postgraduate students from foreign universities which are officially
acknowledged in their countries of origin.
Conditional admission based upon passing an assessment from the Academic Committee and
upon satisfying the acquisition of extra credits as required by the same Committee: University
graduates who do not hold a postgraduate degree.
Conditional admission based upon passing an assessment from the Academic Committee,
upon satisfying the acquisition of extra credits as required by the same Committee, and upon
passing courses or stages from University programs related to the Doctorate program: students
who do not hold a University degree.
In any of these cases, candidates must meet the requirements set by the Academic Committee in
terms of equivalencies and leveling modules.
