It is further recommended and suggested that the blending time can be improved to less than one hour by adding correcting hydrocarbon through the P43 machine. 1) INTRODUCTION The Progressive P43 machine is motivated by a flow of hydrocarbon pumped through the machine, a proportion of which drives an impeller. The impeller rotation is reduced through a series of gears, the final drive of which transmits a slow rotation to the nozzle body resulting in a jet of hydrocarbon sweeping the base of the tank every 90 minutes. Early dye tests show that a single P43 machine is capable of effectively mixing a 46 metre diameter tank filled to 7 metres with water, in only 30 minutes. 2) OBJECTIVE The problems associated with rapid and efficient hydrocarbon blending are well documented. A major UK Oil Refinery has an export customer for gasoline which invariably requires correction and blending of their standard product. Using the existing side entry propeller mixer system, the blending time was typically fifty hours. The objectives of the trial were to reduce the blending time thereby improving throughput and minimising costly delays. 3) METHODS 3.1 Refinery drain tank to facilitate manway removal. 3.2 Progressive mobilise one diesel driven pump unit plus one shell mount P43 machine complete with specially designed manway cover. 3.3 Progressive install P43 machine and connect up with 8 inch cargo hoses to the mobile unit. 3.4 Refinery fill tank with relevant quantities of gasoline (for trial purposes, the quantities and qualities of gasoline were chosen to be a 'difficult' correction). Results are graphically represented and show that complete homogenisation was effected to 0.003 S.G. in six and one half hours. For comparison purposes, this trial was repeated under the same conditions utilising the existing two Kilowatt side entry propeller mixers. Homogenisation was effected to 0.003 S.G. in sixty six hours. Registro Mercantil de Vizcaya, Tomo 3.177, Folio 76, Sección 8, Hoja Nº BI-12.973, Inscripción 6ª – C.I.F.
