“CELEBRATING LIFE”
Traditional “Día de Muertos” shrines exhibit at the Consulate of Mexico in Denver

DENVER – DENVER – The Consulate General of Mexico in Denver, the Mexican Cultural Center and Done
Vida Colorado gladly invites the public to visit the traditional “Día de Muertos” shrines exhibit located at
the 5350 Leetsdale Dr. The exhibit consists of several traditional “altares” or shrines/altars that reflects
the symbolism and tradition of a celebration that can be traced back to thousands of years in various
indigenous groups such as the Aztecs and its syncretism with the catholic religion.
The “Celebrating Life” exhibit also displays two special shrines assembled by volunteers of Done Vida
Colorado. One of the “altares” is dedicated to a Hispanic young man who passed away and gave the gift
of life to others through tissue and eye donation. The second altar is dedicated to the people who after
passing away provided a second opportunity of life or the enhancing of it, by being organ, tissue and eyes
donors.
The public will have the chance to learn the basic meanings of the altars and the elements in it, as well as
get to know some everyday “scenes” of México portrayed along the exhibit. This free exhibit is open to
all public starting Oct 26th, until Nov 6th 2015, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. For students visits

Exhibición de altares de muertos tradicionales en el Consulado de México en Denver.
Del 26 de octubre al 13 de noviembre.
DENVER – El Consulado General de México en Denver, el Centro Cultural Mexicano y Done Vida Colorado
invitan cordialmente al público a visitar la exhibición gratuita de altares de muertos tradicionales ubicada
en el 5350 de Leetsdale Dr. Esta muestra consiste de varios altares que reflejan el simbolismo y tradición
de esta celebración, la cual tiene registros históricos que datan de miles de años en varios grupos
indígenas como los aztecas, así como su sincretismo con la religión católica.
“Celebrando vida” también cuenta con dos altares especialmente diseñados por los voluntarios de la
organización Done Vida Colorado. El primer altar está dedicado a la memoria de un joven hispano que
falleció trágicamente y fue donador de corneas y tejidos. Gracias a su donación, varias personas se vieron
beneficiadas y obtuvieron una oportunidad de mejorar su calidad de vida. El segundo altar está dedicado
a todos los donadores que aún después de fallecer, dieron una segunda oportunidad de vida o de
mejorarla, a través de la donación de órganos, tejidos y ojos.
Igualmente, los asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de aprender el significado básico de los altares y los
elementos que estos contienen, así como de ver algunas escenas de la vida diaria de México recreadas a
lo largo de la exhibición. Los horarios de visita son de lunes a viernes de 8 a.m. a 5 p.m. Si requiere

Longmont’s annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration is the Longmont Museum’s
signature event and the largest Day of the Dead celebration in Colorado, attracting more than
6,000 people to the exhibit, family event and related programming. The celebration
demonstrates how a diverse community can come together to share a common desire – to honor
our ancestors and keep their memories alive.
