Arms Trade Treaty Policy Support Officer The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is a legally-binding instrument which seeks to establish the highest possible common international standards for regulating or improving the regulation of the international trade in conventional arms. It also seeks to prevent and eradicate the illicit trade in conventional arms and prevent their diversion. The purpose of the Treaty is to contribute to international and regional peace, security and stability, reduce human suffering, and promote cooperation, transparency and responsible conduct by States Parties in the international arms trade, in order to build confidence among States Parties. Article 18 of the Treaty calls for the establishment of a Secretariat to assist States Parties in the effective implementation of the Treaty. The Treaty specifies that Secretariat shall be adequately staffed and that the staff shall have the necessary expertise to ensure that the Secretariat can effectively undertake the responsibilities outlined in Article 18 (3) of the Treaty. Applications are invited for the position of Arms Trade Treaty Policy Support Officer to undertake the duties and responsibilities listed hereunder: Duties and Responsibilities Within the context of the Directive of States Parties to the Secretariat (referenced ATT/CSP1/CONF/3 dated 25 August 2016) the post incumbent will, inter alia, perform the following responsibilities: Provide content and substantive support to ATT conferences, subsidiary bodies, committees and established working groups. Provide secretarial support services to ATT conferences, subsidiary bodies, committees and established working groups. Maintain an updated ATT national points of contact as well as distribution and mailing lists. Manage the ATT website content and facilitate the maintenance and enhancement of the website. Provide support to the Head of the Secretariat with regard to keeping of records and documents from meetings as well as communicating decisions and outcomes of meetings. Provide support in facilitating the matching of offers and requests for assistance for Treaty implementation. Plan, control and execute a work program for own office. Qualifications and Experience The following qualifications and experience are a requirement: Education: Advanced university (Master’s) degree in international relations, public administration, business administration, law, public policy or other relevant fields of study. A first level university degree in combination with a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in a governmental, multilateral or civil society organization in a multi-cultural setting. At least 2 or more years of senior-level management responsibilities of similar size and complexity. Language Strong written and verbal communication in English. A written and spoken skill in other UN languages is preferred.
