MINISTERIO DE AGRICULTURA, ALIMENTACIÓN Y MEDIO AMBIENTE DIRECCIÓN GENERAL DE SANIDAD DE LA PRODUCCIÓN AGRARIA SUBDIRECCIÓN GENERAL DE ACUERDOS SANITARIOS Y CONTROL EN FRONTERA IMPORT OF LIVE ANIMALS WITH FINAL DESTINATION SPAIN INTENDED FOR RESEARCH, ZOOLOGICAL INSTITUTIONS, CIRCUS ANIMALS OR ANIMALS INTENDED FOR EXHIBITIONS OR SHOWS. IMPORT OF EXOTIC LIVE ANIMALS FOR SALE AS PETS IN SPAIN. To import live animals whose final destination is Spain and which are intended for research, zoological institutions, circus animals, animals intended for exhibitions or shows, and also to import exotic live animals to be sold as pets in Spain, the following requirements should be met: 1. ANIMALS INTENDED FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES In the case of rodents, the animals should come accompanied by a veterinary certificate according to the model established in Spain, when the final destination is our country. The relevant model can be found in the following web site: http://www.magrama.gob.es/es/ganaderia/temas/comercio-exterior-ganadero/comercio-exteriorganadero-import-export-/certis-import.aspx In the case of primates intended for research, the importer will have to send a request of import using Annex I to the General Sub-directorate of Sanitary Agreements and Border Controls (SGASCF), by e-mail to importacionanimal@magrama.es or by fax to +34 91 347 82 48. Each case will be studied by the SGASCF, and additional information could be requested by this Unit in order to do a risk analysis of the importation. If the entry of the animals is pre-authorized, an import license will be issued indicating the model of certificate that should accompany the animals. This license will be sent to the importer and to the Border Inspection Post (BIP) of entry. An indispensable requirement to import primates will be that the place of destination is authorized according to Directive 92/65/CEE. 2. ANIMALS INTENDED TO ZOOLOGICAL INSTITUTIONS, EXHIBITIONS OR SHOWS. CIRCUS ANIMALS. 2.1. EXOTIC UNGULATES, ELEPHANTS AND RHINOCEROS To import live animals indicated in Part I of Annex VI of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 780/2013 intended for zoological institutions, the importer will have to send a request of import using Annex I to the General Sub-directorate of Sanitary Agreements and Border Controls (SGASCF), by e-mail to importacionanimal@magrama.es or by fax to +34 91 347 82 48. Each case will be studied by the SGASCF, and additional information could be requested by this Unit in order to do a risk analysis of the importation. If the entry of the animals is pre-authorized, an import license that will be sent to the importer and to the Border Inspection Post (BIP) of entry will be issued. The animals will have to be accompanied by an official certificate according to the model established in Part II of Annex VI of the above mentioned Regulation. An indispensable requirement to import these animals will be that the zoological institution of destination is authorized according to Directive 92/65/EEC and that the animals are coming from one of the listed countries according to Part 2 of Article 1 (“Article 3 bis 1.b)” of the Regulation. 2.2. OTHER ANIMALS (NON HARMONIZED ANIMALS AT EU LEVEL) In the case of birds and primates an indispensable requirement to import these animals will be that the zoological institution of destination is authorized according to Directive 92/65/EEC. The importer will have to send a request of import using Annex I to the General Sub-directorate of Sanitary Agreements and Border Controls (SGASCF), by e-mail to importacionanimal@magrama.es or by fax to +34 91 347 82 48. Each case will be studied by the SGASCF, and additional information could be requested by this Unit in order to do a risk analysis of the importation. EXOTIC ANIMALS INTENTED FOR SALE AS PETS IN SPAIN If there is a model of certificate IMP for the animal to be imported, the animal/s will be accompanied by an official certificate according to that model, when the final destination is Spain: http://www.magrama.gob.es/es/ganaderia/temas/comercio-exterior-ganadero/comercio-exteriorganadero-import-export-/certis-import.aspx In the case of turtles, they will also be accompanied by an analytical report indicating that they have been tested for Salmonella. In the case a model of certificate IMP is not available on the website (CEXGAN) for the animals to be imported, the importer will have to send a request of import using Annex I to the General Sub-directorate of Sanitary Agreements and Border Controls (SGASCF), by e-mail to importacionanimal@magrama.es or by fax to +34 91 347 82 48. Each case will be studied by the SGASCF, and additional information could be requested by this Unit in order to do a risk analysis of the importation. Sanitary risk will be evaluated and if it is considered necessary, consultation to the General Sub-directorate of Natural Environment will be made, so an evaluation from the protection of the environment point of view can be made (alien invasive species). If the entry of the animals is pre-authorized, an import license will be issued indicating the model of certificate that should accompany the animals. This license will be sent to the importer and to the Border Inspection Post (BIP) of entry.
