ENCJ´s statement on developments in Turkey
The ENCJ condemns the attempted coup in Turkey and regrets the loss of lives
and many casualties. Those behind the coup should be held responsible
through a fair and impartial trial in accordance with international standards.
The ENCJ is gravely concerned by the reports that over 2700 judges and
prosecutors were suspended and/or dismissed by the High Council for Judges
and Prosecutors only hours after the terrible events happened. A number of
judges that were member of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors
appear to be among those suspended from office. Further reports seem to
indicate that a vast number of judges and prosecutors were subsequently
detained.
Current events give reason to believe that a further purge of the judiciary is
taking place under the pretext of the failed coup attempt. The ENCJ reiterates
its call to the Turkish Authorities to respect fully the main principles that
guarantee the independence of judges and the principles of due process for all
those affected.
The ENCJ will follow the developments in Turkey and stay in close contact with
the relevant European and international authorities.

Declaración de la Red Europea de Consejos de Justicia (RECJ) sobre los
acontecimientos en Turquía
La RECJ condena el intento de golpe de estado en Turquía y lamenta la
pérdida de vidas y los numerosos heridos. Los artífices del golpe deberían
responder penalmente por medio de un proceso justo e imparcial de acuerdo
con los estándares internacionales.
La RECJ está seriamente preocupada por las informaciones que indican que
más de 2.700 jueces y fiscales han sido suspendidos y/o cesados por el Alto
Consejo de Jueces y Fiscales, tan solo unas horas después de que tuvieran
lugar los terribles acontecimientos. Parece que algunos jueces miembros del
Alto Consejo de Jueces y Fiscales se encuentran entre los suspendidos de sus
cargos. Algunas informaciones adicionales parecen indicar que un elevado
número de jueces y fiscales han sido detenidos posteriormente.
Los acontecimientos actuales ofrecen motivos para sospechar que se está
produciendo una purga más amplia en la judicatura con el pretexto del fallido
intento de golpe de estado. La RECJ reitera su llamamiento a las autoridades
turcas a fin de que sean plenamente respetados los principios fundamentales
que garantizan la independencia judicial y el derecho a un proceso justo para
todos los afectados.
La RECJ seguirá los acontecimientos en Turquía y continuará en estrecho
contacto con las autoridades competentes, europeas e internacionales.
