Elección para cubrir una vacante del Comité de Finanzas con arreglo a lo dispuesto
en el párrafo 5 de la sección 9 del anexo del Acuerdo relativo a la aplicación de la
Parte XI de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Derecho del Mar, de 10
de diciembre de 1982
Nota del Secretario General

Se señala a la atención de la Asamblea la renuncia del Sr. David Etuket (Uganda)
como miembro del Comité de Finanzas, cargo para el que fue elegido el 13 de agosto de
1996 por un período de cinco años, con efecto a partir del 1° de enero de 1997
(ISBA/A/L.13, párr. 12).

En el párrafo 5 de la sección 9 del anexo del Acuerdo relativo a la aplicación de
la Parte XI de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Derecho del Mar, de 10 de
diciembre de 1982, se dispone que en caso de fallecimiento, incapacidad o renuncia de
un miembro del Comité de Finanzas antes de que expire su mandato, la Asamblea ha de
elegir a una persona de la misma región geográfica o del mismo grupo de Estados para
que ejerza el cargo durante el resto del mandato.

De conformidad con lo dispuesto en la sección 9 del Acuerdo, el Comité de
Finanzas ha de estar integrado por 15 miembros con las debidas calificaciones para
ocuparse de asuntos financieros. Los miembros del Comité de Finanzas han de ser
elegidos por la Asamblea.

En una nota verbal de fecha 22 de junio de 2000, la Misión Permanente de
Uganda ante las Naciones Unidas informó a la Secretaría de la Autoridad de la
candidatura de la Sra. Juliet Semambo Kalema, consejera de la Misión Permanente, para
cubrir la vacante en el Comité de Finanzas. El curriculum vitae de la Sra, Semambo
Kalema figura en las páginas siguientes ¹.

Assembly of the United Nations which includes International
Trade Law, Law of the Sea, the Charter Committee, International
Law Commission and negotiation of various conventions and
agreements. Also responsible for the work of the Security Council
and Peacekeeping Operations, Human Rights issues as well as
candidatures and vacancies within the United Nations System.

belonging to the Uganda Mission, which Includes coordination of
tenants and brokers, negotiating and drafting leases, asset
management etc.

Legal Adviser to the Mission, including dealing with contracts
both with vendors, suppliers and employees.
