NOTIFICATION LETTER FOR CONDITIONAL PROMOTION
GRADES 2 - 8
Directions:
The purpose of this letter is to inform the parents of a conditionally retained student
of the teacher’s decision to conditionally promote the student.
Conditional Promotion may be granted by the classroom teacher who issued a notice of
conditional retention at the end of the school year. When a student attends summer school
regularly and achieves adequate growth through measurable summer school achievement or the
previous May CST (posted in August), the retaining classroom teacher MAY revoke the
conditional retention and promote the student to the following grade.
When the teacher decides to conditionally promote a student, the teacher must issue, in writing, a
rationale for the decision. Within the letter, there is a space to write this rationale for promoting
the student.
This letter should be sent in August after the teacher has reviewed the student CUM for summer
school records and CST results.
This letter should be issued on school letterhead and copies retained by the classroom teacher,
school and parent.
The elementary school teacher and principal or the middle school principal/designee should sign
this letter. It should be placed in the student’s CUM folder.

This letter is to inform you that student’s name and student’s ID# is being recommended for
promotion to the ________ grade.
In November, we discussed that your child was performing below the minimum grade level
standards and that retention was a possibility. Then in May we discussed that your student
would be conditionally retained. At this time, your student has met all of the requirements for
promotion as noted below:
We believe it is in the best interest of your student to be promoted to the next grade. We would
encourage your student to take full advantage of intervention programs and other academic
support options this year.

estudiante sería condicionalmente retenido. Presentemente, sus estudiante ha cumplido con
todos los requisitos para promoción notado por lo siguiente:
Creemos que es el major beneficio de su estudiante de ser adelantado al siguiente año escolar.
Animamos a su estudiante que se aproveche de programas de intervención y otras opciones
académicas este año.
