CANDIDATE’S STATEMENT
Peter Atonna
Chino Valley School District
Let’s begin with a brief background. My wife and I grew up in and graduated from Douglas, AZ schools and
both have degrees from the U of A. I have a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in City Planning. My last 25
years were as a Deputy Planning Director with the City of Phoenix. We then retired to Paulden in 1999, built a
home and have been here since.
I was the founding President of the Paulden Area Community Organization and served as its president for six
years.
Our family has long been involved in education. My wife began her career as a high school math teacher and
while working back East, I was an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Geography Department of the University
of Toledo for nine years. Since moving to Paulden, I also taught a class at Yavapai College with a friend for
two years. Our family also serves in the education field with my sister-in-law recently retiring from the
Roosevelt School District in Phoenix while her son is now an Assistant Principal in Colorado.
I was appointed to the Chino Valley School Board in 2008 and have served two elected terms. For the last two
years I have been honored to serve as the President of the Board.
While on the Board, I have had two constant goals:
+ assist the district staff and administration to improve the quality of education they receive through ongoing
evaluation and feedback between the teaching staff and students, supporting our Career and Technical
Education programs, encouraging honors programs for our advanced students, and broadening the scope of
academic and enrichment activities.
+ ensure that the district can live and improve within the limitations of funding available to public schools by
seeing that each additional expense has a funding source, that our budgets are realistic within the limitations
of state and local funding and that future funding and projected expenses are within realistic estimates.
Thank you for allowing me to serve the children of Chino Valley and Paulden. I hope you will support me for
another term on the Chino Valley School Board.

Hay que comenzar con breve un resumen. Mi esposa y yo crecimos en y nos recibimos en las escuelas de
Douglas, AZ y ambos disfrutamos de licenciaturas de la Universidad de Arizona. Yo tengo un BS en Ingeniería
Civil y una MS en Planificación Municipal. Mis últimos 25 años pasados fueron como Director de Planificación
Suplente de la Ciudad de Phoenix. Luego en 1990 nos jubilamos a Paulden, construimos una casa y hemos
estado aquí desde entonces.
Fui el Presidente fundador de la Organización de la Comunidad de la Región de Paulden y serví como su
presidente por seis años.
Por mucho tiempo nuestra familia ha estado involucrada en la educación. Mi esposa comenzó su carrera como
profesora de matemática en la high school y mientras trabajando en el Este, yo fui Asistente de Profesor
Adjunto en el Departamento de Geografía de la Universidad de Toledo por nueve años. Desde mudándonos a
Paulden, yo también enseñé en el Colegio Yavapai con un amigo por dos años. Nuestra familia también sirve en
el campo de educación con mi cuñada recientemente jubilándose de Roosvelt School District de Phoenix
mientras que su hijo hoy es Principal Asistente en Colorado.
Yo fui nombrado al Consejo Escolar de Chino Valley en 2008 y he servido dos plazos elegidos. Por los últimos
dos años he tenido el honor de servir como Presidente del Consejo.
Mientras que en el Consejo, yo he tenido dos metas constantes:
+
ayudar al personal del distrito y a la administración mejorar la calidad de educando que reciben a través
de evaluación continua e información entre el personal de enseñanza y los estudiantes, apoyar nuestros
programas Educacionales de Carreras y Técnico, fomentar programas de honores de nuestros estudiantes
talentosos, y ampliar el alcance de las actividades académicas y de enriquecimiento
+
asegurar que el distrito pueda vivir y mejorar dentro de los límites de financiamiento disponible para las
escuelas públicas por viendo que cada gasto adicional tenga una fuente de financiamiento, que nuestros
presupuestos sean realísticos dentro de las limitaciones del estado y financiamiento local y de que el
financiamiento en el futuro y gastos proyectados estén dentro de los cálculos realísticos.
Gracias por haberme permitido servir los niños de Chino Valley y Paulden. Espero que me apoyen por otro
plazo en el Consejo Escolar de Chino Valley.
