Nuclear energy as a medium/long term option La energía de todos Management of Preparatory Activities • A Committee was created by the Secretary of Energy, including experts from various Ministries and academy (May 2008) • Committee’s mandate: “Is it interesting to consider a NPP as a possible long term option for the Uruguayan electric mix?” • Comprehensive repport to the President: “Preliminary analysis for a possible NPP in Uruguay" • Proposal: to follow “Phase 1”, according to IAEA´s “Milestones document” La energía de todos Management of Preparatory Activities (2) • • • The President met the opposition leaders They decided to launch Phase 1 (Dec 2008) Decree: Creates a NEPIO, including experts from many Ministries and all political parties in Parliament.
