9/28- Back to School Night Event: On Wednesday, September 28th from 5pm-7pm we will be hosting our biggest event of the year! Take this opportunity to
meet your child’s teachers and see what is happening in their classes. Please join us together with your family as Ms. Funes has ordered a special family BBQ
that will begin at 3:45pm. For attending you can earn up to 3 parent hours. Remember to bring your child, as he/she will guide you through their classes.
9/28- 12pm Dismissal: Due to our Back to School Night Event, on Wednesday, September 28th, O’Donovan will be on a 12pm Dismissal. Please make sure to
pick up your child on time as we only have supervision until 12:15pm. After School All-Stars will continue from 12:00pm-6pm.
09/17-Commerce to College Fair: This past weekend we had our Annual College Fair! We had 40 6-8th families attend this great event. They had the
opportunity to attend different workshops including A-G Requirements and Financial Aid information. This was a great experience for our families.8th Grade
students that attended received 3 hours towards their 8th Grade Requirement Hours. Friendly reminder all 8th Grade students are required to complete their 10
community service ours by May 2017. All parents who attended received parent hours and students will receive free dress for tomorrow Friday, 9/23.
9/19- Student School ID’s have ARRIVED: All students received their school ID’s on Monday. Please make sure your child has their ID with them everyday
as they are needed for breakfast and lunch services. Replacement for this ID will cost $5.
9/19-District Benchmark Math Exams: Students were tested in their Math classes this past Monday and Tuesday. We are in the progress of our Make-ups
and project to be done tomorrow, Friday September 23rd. Teachers will analyze the student test results and provide next instructional steps.
9/23-Cycle 1 Mandatory After School Tutoring Ends: Our 1st Tutoring Cycle ends tomorrow. If your child has tutoring tomorrow please make sure he/she
attend their last session. Our Cycle 2 Tutoring will run from October 17th- November 18th. Students and parents will be notified the week ok October 10th.
9/26-Van Ness Park During P.E Classes: Thank you to our Parent Volunteers for assisting us this week. Please keep in mind that if you want to be a
chaperone you must turn in your TB verification to Ms. Juarez, our Parent Specialist. -Chaperone Schedule as followed: Mondays at 8am and 1pm,
Tuesdays at 8am, 10am and 1pm. Please contact Ms. Juarez if interested in volunteering.
9/28- STL Fundraiser Event: The Student Technology Leader (STL) will be hosting a fundraiser during Back to School Night Event! Students are fundraising
for their annual Physics Day trip. We will be selling chips, candy, elotes, sodas, and water for $1 each. Please come support our STLs from 4-7 PM. Parents
who will like to donate items please contact Ms. Juarez at 323-294-3172.
9/28- Drug Abuse Prevention Presentations: Greetings O’Donovan students and families. We are proud to partner with Fresh Start to offer age appropriate
drug abuse prevention presentations for our students. The presentations will occur during PE on Wednesday, September 28. They will raise awareness of the
dangers and consequences of drug use and provide solutions to peer pressure. Flyers will be distributed during Advisory. If you would NOT like your child to
participate in the presentation, please sign the bottom of the flyer and turn it into your Advisory Teacher. For any questions, please contact Mr. Castro.
10/6-10/7 Pupil Free Days (NO SCHOOL): Parents, please be advised that students will have Pupil Free Days on Thursday, October 6th and Friday October
7th. Students will return to school on Monday, October 10th.
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month O'Donovan Families!: ASB is extremely excited to celebrate all of the Hispanic Cultures represented within our school
community during Hispanic Heritage Month. Leading up to our Hispanic Heritage Month Pep Rally on October 14th, ASB will host Fiesta Fridays during
lunch on the patio. Fiesta Fridays will feature dancing, music, and competitions that all relate to our proud Hispanic Heritage. If your student is interested in
participating in our Hispanic Heritage Month assembly, they can sign up to audition after school in Room 103 until October 3rd. Auditions will take place
on October 4th in Room 103 from 3:45-4:45pm. Students will be notified after school on October 5th if they will be able to participate.
Cookie Dough Fundraiser: Attention all parents, our second annual Cookie Dough Fundraiser is coming up! From October 10-21 we will be selling cookie
dough to help raise money for your children's field trips and the 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip! More information will be coming soon!
Spirit Wear Fridays/College Gear: September is the month of Respect! To show spirit, students are allowed to wear yellow/gold (shirts, sweaters, etc.) with
jeans to show their trustworthy spirit! Also, every Friday we have college gear day! (College Sweaters or Shirts w/ jeans). This is a great way to get our
students excited about college!
Character Counts- Star Students of the Week: Each week O’Donovan’s teachers and staff nominate STAR students (Students Thinking and Acting
Responsible) Ms. Funes; our school principal selects a handful of lucky stars! This week STARS Richard Baltazar,Edgar Soriano, Fausto Contreras,
Maryln Granados, Natalie Nocelotl, Alberto Cid, Carlos Linares, Ashley Renderos, Edith Salazar, Edward Alarcon, mariana Santos, Emily Garcia,
Josue Ballesteros, Kimberly Avalos, and Luisa Borjas. Congratulations to these bright stars! They were awarded with free dress for tomorrow, Friday
September 23rd 2016.

9/28- Noche de Regreso a la Escuela: El miércoles 28 de septiembre de 5pm-7pm tendremos nuestro evento del año! Aproveche esta oportunidad para conocer a los
maestros de su hijo/a y ver lo que está sucediendo en sus clases. Por favor, únase a nosotros junto con su familia como la Srta. Funes ha ordenado un BBQ familiar que
comenzará a las 3:45 pm. Por asistir se puede ganar hasta 3 horas para padres. Recuerde de traer a su estudiante para que lo guie con sus clases.
9/28- Salida a las 12:00pm: Debido a nuestro evento de Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, el miércoles, 28 de septiembre tendremos salida a las 12:00pm. Por favor
aseguré de recoger a su estudiante a tiempo antes de las 12:15. Programa de después de escuela estará en sesión de 12:00pm-6:00pm.
9/17- Feria de Colegio: Este sábado pasado tuvimos nuestra Feria Anual de Colegio. Tuvimos 40 familias de 6-8 en asistencia. Todos los padres y estudiantes
tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir a diferentes talleres incluyendo taller de Requisitos A-G e Información Financiera. Esta fue una gran experiencia para nuestras
familias. Estudiantes de grado 8 que asistieron recibieron 3 horas de servicio comunitario que contaran como horas de requisito para graduación. Estudiantes del grado 8
tiene hasta mayo 2017 para completar sus horas. Todos los padres que asistieron recibieron 5 horas de padres y estudiantes recibieron vestuario libre para mañana,
viernes 23 de septiembre.
9/19- ID’s de Escuela: Todos los estudiantes recibieron su Identificación escolar el lunes. Por favor asegúrese que su hijo/a la tenga col ellos todos los días como la
necesitan para servicios de desayuno y almuerzo. Reemplazo para este ID tendrá un costo de $ 5.
9/23-Ciclo 1 de Tutoría Termina: Nuestro Primer ciclo de calificaciones termina mañana. Si su estudiante tiene tutoría mañana, por favor asegúrese que asista su
ultima sesión. Nuestro Segundo ciclo de tutoría comienza el 17 de octubre y terminara el 18 de noviembre. Estudiantes y Familias serán notificadas la semana del 10 de
octubre.
9/19- Examen de Distrito (ANET): Estudiantes tomaron examen en su clase de Matemáticas el lunes y martes. Hoy y mañana estudiantes que no terminaron tomaran
el examen. Maestros analizaran los exámenes y proveerán siguientes pasos de instrucción.
9/26- Parque VanNess durante Educación Física: Gracias a los padres que nos han acompañado como voluntarios esta semana si usted quiere ser voluntario por
favor de entregar su verificación de vacuna de tuberculosis(TB). *Necesitamos Padres Voluntarios/Ayudantes para acompañar a nuestros maestros y estudiantes. Por
favor comuníquese con Ms. Juarez al 213-364-1572 para inscribirse! Necesitamos padres el lunes a las 8am y 1pm, y el martes a las 8am, 10am, y 1pm. Esperamos su

9/28-Recaudación de fondos -Estudiantes de Tecnología: Estudiantes de Tecnología (STL) tendrán una recaudación de fondos durante nuestro evento de Noche de
Regreso a la Escuela. Los estudiantes estarán recaudando fondos para su viaje anual del Día de la Física. Estarán vendiendo papitas, dulces, elotes, refrescos y agua por
$ 1 cada uno. Por favor, venga y apoye a los Estudiantes de Tecnología (STL)a partir de la 4pm-7pm. Los padres que deseen donar artículos por favor de comunicarse
con la Srta. Juarez al 323-294-3172.
9/28- Presentaciones de prevención del abuso de drogas: Estamos orgullosos de colaborar con Fresh Start para ofrecer presentaciones apropiadas para la edad de
prevención del abuso de drogas para nuestros estudiantes. Las presentaciones tendrán lugar durante la clase de Educación Física el miércoles, 28 de septiembre. Se
aumentará la conciencia de lo peligro y las consecuencias del consumo de drogas y proporcionar soluciones a la presión. Cartas se distribuirán durante clase de
Advisory. Si usted no desea que su hijo participe en la presentación, por favor firme la parte la carta y regrésela a la clase de Advisory. Por cualquier pregunta, por
favor, póngase en contacto con el Sr. Castro.
10/6-10/7 Días Libres- No Escuela: Padres, con tiempo queremos recordarles que el jueves 6 de octubre y viernes 7 de octubre estudiantes no tendrán clases.
Estudiantes regresaran el lunes 10 de octubre.
Mes de la Herencia Hispana!: Grupo de Liderazgo esta muy emocionado de celebrar la cultura hispana dentro de nuestra comunidad escolar durante el mes de la
Herencia Hispana. Tendremos una Asamblea el 14 de octubre. Cada viernes tendremos “Viernes Fiesta” con baile, música y concursos representando herencia hispana.
Si el estudiante está interesado en participar en nuestra asamblea, pueden inscribirse para una audición después de la escuela, en el salón 103 hasta el 3 de octubre. Las
audiciones tendrán lugar el 4 de octubre, en el salón 103 de 3:45-4:45pm. Los estudiantes serán notificados después de escuela el 5 de octubre si estarán en condiciones
de participar.
Recaudación de fondos: Atención a todos los padres, nuestra segunda edición anual de recaudación de fondos galletas se acerca! A partir de octubre 10-21 de que será la venta de
masa para galletas para ayudar a recaudar dinero para las excursiones de sus hijos y el viaje de Octavo Grado a Washington DC! ¡Más información próximamente!
Vestuario libre/de colegio: Septiembre es mes de Respeto. Estudiantes pueden usar el color oro o amarillo para demostrar que son de respetosos. También todos los viernes
pueden usar camisas o suéter de colegio con pantalón de mesqulilla.
Estudiantes de la Semana: Cada semana O'Donovan profesores y estudiantes del nombramiento del personal de STAR (Estudiantes Pensar y actuar con responsabilidad) y la Sra
Funes, nuestro director de la escuela selecciona un puñado de afortunados Estrellas! Esta semana ESTRELLA estudiantes de la Richard Baltazar,Edgar Soriano, Fausto
Contreras, Maryln Granados, Natalie Nocelotl, Alberto Cid, Carlos Linares, Ashley Renderos, Edith Salazar, Edward Alarcon, mariana Santos, Emily Garcia, Josue
Ballesteros, Kimberly Avalos, and Luisa Borjas. Felicidades a estas estrellas que fueron premiadas con vestuario libre mañana Viernes, 23 de septiembre.
