Cerca de 90% de los manuscritos –representados en las ediciones críticas modernas por los símbolos “M”
(gótico) = majoritário (Nestle-Aland) o Byz = bizantino (UBS). Aunque los manuscritos más antiguos que
contienen el Texto Mayoritario no son anteriores al siglo IV (la mayoría son de los siglos VI al IX) el texto que
reflejan era considerado como mucho más antiguos, datando en los primeros siglos de la era cristiana.

mayoría de los manuscritos.

El texto de Westcott y Hort se basaba principalmente en los códices A, B y D. Burgon considera estos
manuscritos como “tres de las copias más escandalosamente corruptas existentes (…) exhibiendo los textos
más vergonzosamente mutilados que se puedan encontrar (…) depositario del mayor número de lecturas
elaboradas, antiguos errores y perversiones intencionadas de la Verdad” (The Revision Revised, p. 16).
