On her eighteenth birthday Helen got five hundred pounds as a present from her aunt Dorothy. Instead of spending the money on going on holiday or saving it for university, Helen decided to start her own business. While all her friends were in university, she decided to use her money to buy the ingredients to make chocolate cakes. She was a good cook, so she made a lot of cakes and started selling them to local restaurants. Some time later her chocolate cakes became very popular as a dessert and, in the restaurants, the customers were interested in buying them. A couple of months later she had doubled her aunt’s money. She bought a second-hand van and started to sell the cakes to bakeries and supermarkets in the area. At the beginning, Helen’s parents weren’t happy with her decision of not going on with her studies, but then, when they could see that the business was extremely succesful, they were very happy about Helen’s business. Now, Helen is twenty-one and she has five people working for her, cooking and delivering not only the cakes but also a variety of products such as buns, pies and butter biscuits that have become very famous.
