Good Cause Exemptions Scholars may qualify for a good cause exemption for any of the following: 1. Limited English Proficient students with less than 2 years of instruction in ESL programs 2. Students with disabilities whose IEP indicate the following 1. NCEXTEND1 alternate assessment 2. 3. Estudiantes que demuestran competencia de lectura apropiada del 3º grado en una evaluación alternativa aprobada por el SBE ( Junta de Educación del Estado) Good Cause Exemptions ¤ Good Cause Exemptions 1-­‐‑3 will be determined on a Student by student basis. ¤ Good Cause exemption #4 will be an opportunity for all 3rd grade scholars. Alternate Assessment ¤ Throughout the week of May 4th-­‐‑8th 3rd grade scholars will take a computerized assessment called the NWEA ¤ The NWEA is designed to assess scholar’s reading proficiency ¤ The NWEA is a nationally normed assessment administered to millions of students each year across the country ¤ Scholars who score a scale score of 207 or higher will have met the Read to Achieve requirement and despite their BOG and EOG score they will be promoted to the 4th grade Evaluación Alternativa ¤ A lo largo de la semana de mayo 4-­‐‑8, estudiantes en el 3º grado, tomarán una evaluación computarizado llamado NWEA ¤ El examen de NWEA está diseñado para evaluar la competencia de lectura del estudiante. ¤ Los estudiantes que obtengan una calificación de 207 o más, han cumplido con el requisito de Leer Para Lograr y a pesar de sus niveles de su BOG o EOG serán promovidos al 4º grado. What If? What if a scholar does NOT pass the BOG, EOG, Read to Achieve Assessment and he/she does not qualify for a good cause exemption? ¤ The scholar will be retained and will repeat 3rd grade in the 2015-­‐‑16 school year Que Pasa Si….? ¿Qué pasa si un estudiante no pasa los exámenes de BOG, EOG, y de Leer Para Lograr y también no califica para una excepción de buena causa? ¤El estudiante será retenido y repetirá el 3º grado en el año2015-­‐‑16 escolar. Not Determined Yet ¤ Last year we were able to hold a “Reading Camp” in which scholars attended at least 72 hours of reading remediation ¤ At the end of the Reading Camp scholars had to score proficient on the alternate assessment in order to be promoted ¤ We have not yet received word from DPI whether this is a possibility, but we will keep you updated on the latest information. So, what are we doing at Joy to help all scholars meet this requirement? ¤ Targeted assessment ¤ Scholars take Interim Assessments 3x a year and teachers closely analyze and assess the data ¤ GRITZ groups ¤ All year long, scholars have received targeted reading intervention ¤ As we head into the EOG scholars have 2 Workshop periods where teachers are providing specific targeted remediation to scholars ¤ Test Prep ¤ For the next 5 weeks leading up to testing scholars will have at least 30-­‐‑45 minutes of targeted test prep and work to build reading stamina ¿Qué estamos haciendo en la escuela? ¿Qué estamos haciendo en Maureen Joy para ayudar a todos los estudiantes cumplan con este requisito? ¤Evaluación Específica ¤ Estudiantes toman evaluaciones provisionales 3 veces al año y maestros analizan y evalúan los datos ¤Grupos Gritz (grupos pequeños de instrucción) ¤ A medida que nos acercamos a los EOGs, estudiantes tiene 2 períodos de taller donde los maestros están proporcionando remediación dirigida específica para los estudiantes ¤Preparación para Exámenes ¤ En las próximas 5 semanas, antes del examen, los estudiantes tendrán por lo menos 30 a 45 minutos de preparación para los exámenes y trabajaremos para construir fortaleza durante la lectura What can you do at home? We do not know exactly IF there will be any changes, but if there are, we will communicate these changes to you in a timely manner.
