Winning first prizes on the most prestigious guitar competitions – including ‘Michele Pittaluga’ in Alessandria, Italy, ‘Guitarra Alhambra’ in Valencia, Spain, ‘Iserlohn’ in Germany and ‘Forum Gitarre Wien’ in Austria – and performing all over Europe, in Russia and the USA, Irina seems to be well on her way to fulfill the highest expectations. She has the capacity of completely opening herself to music, dragging audiences with her into a most profound and honest experience. Irina Kulikova was born in Chelyabinsk, the capital of South-Ural, Russia. She commenced playing guitar when she was six. Her rare musical talents were soon recognized. She was admitted into “New Names” – the International program for young talents. When she was twelve, she already was winning competitions and playing galaconcerts in all the major cities of Russia. She was invited for concert tours in England, Italy and Poland and appeared on Russian and Polish television and radio. At fourteen, Irina was included in the book “The Classical Guitar - its evolution, players and personalities since 1800” by Maurice J. Summerfield, director of Ashley Mark Publishing Company. Ever since this early recognition, Irina has given concerts and performed on musical festivals in over twenty countries. She performs as a solist, in a great variety of ensembles and with orchestra’s. Some highlights of recent years were her appearances in the “Salzburg Schloss Concerts” in the Schloss Mirabell, on the international festivals of Legnani (Italy), Naxos (Greece) and Miami (USA), in Bad-Beldenburg for Princess Benedikt and her guests and in the beautiful cathedral of Coria, Spain. Irina Kulikova graduated in Moscow (Gnessins Academy) and Salzburg (Mozarteum University; with honour). She studied with great teachers like Simone Fontanelli (modern music), Howard Penny (baroque music) and Hans Brüderl (baroque lute). She participated in Master Classes with (amongst others) José María Gallardo del Rey, Kshyhtoph Peleh, John Mills, Sergio Assad, Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, Ricardo Gallen and David Russell. Currently she continues her work with Marco Tamayo in Austria and Carlo Marchione in The Netherlands. In 2005 Irina released her first solo-CD – “Guitar recital”. Fragments of her music can be found on her website – www.irinakulikova.com. Her second solo-CD she will record in 2009 under the Naxos-label. Since 2007 Irina lives and teaches in The Netherlands.
