Once again, autumn has proven to be one of DPP’s busiest
times of the year. This “Back-toSchool” season, DPP enrolled
its 150th preschool provider—a significant milestone
for citizens of
Denver. With
150 providers now participating in DPP, families seeking to
enroll their children in a highquality preschool can choose
from more than 250 sites across
the city.

Recently, I had the privilege of
attending the Telluride Foundation’s 3rd Annual Economic
Summit on Early Childhood Investment, where I joined economists, educators, businesspeople and political leaders from
across the country to discuss
the importance of investment
in early childhood education as
an integral part of our nation’s
economic rebound. And just
weeks ago in Washington, D.C.,
a bill including the Early Learning Challenge Fund—an initiative allocating $8 billion over
eight years to states with plans
to improve preschool and other early learning programs—
passed the U.S. House of Representatives. While our efforts
remain focused on ensuring
high-quality preschool is available for families in our community, it is our hope that DPP can
serve as a model of success for
this national movement.

Denver Preschool Program has experienced tremendous successes
in its short history, achieving its
five-year goals for family enrollment in just our first year and a
half of existence. As we continue
our efforts in Denver, DPP is spearheading plans for a 2011 statewide
conference that will allow Colorado ECE professionals to discuss
early education policy, share ideas
and improve practices through
collaboration and teamwork. Save

Nuevamente, el otoño ha demostrado ser uno de los momentos
más ocupados
del año para DPP.
En esta estación
de “regreso a la
escuela,” DPP inscribió a su proveedor de preescolar nro. 150; un hito
significativo para los ciudadanos de
Denver. Con 150 proveedores que
ahora participan en DPP, las familias
que desean inscribir a sus hijos en un
preescolar de alta calidad pueden
escoger entre más de 250 preescolares en toda la ciudad.
Este hito también refleja nuestro
rápido crecimiento en la inscripción de proveedores. En poco
más de un año, DPP ha aumentado su red de proveedores de 50 a
150; y continúa haciendo una realidad de la educación preescolar

de Denver.

Why should parents send their
children to preschool?
Beginning in kindergarten I knew that
I wanted to be a teacher like my mom.
Working with the children, their eagerness to learn and explore, along with
their energy, and their smiles and hugs
is all it took for me to fall in love with
teaching young children. Being a preschool teacher takes lots of patience,
compassion, humor, and a caring heart
and you are rewarded with the knowledge that you are giving your students
the tools with which they can succeed
in life.
By being involved in DPP, we are helping to improve the quality of early childhood education for our young children.
Involved families have the opportunity
to provide their child with the opportunity to experience preschool in a quality setting and start them on their first
steps to a successful academic career.

Cuando los niños tienen la oportunidad
de ir al preescolar esto les permite establecer su autoestima, desarrollar destrezas sociales importantes, como el aprender a jugar, compartir, tomar turnos y

preacadémicas que experimentan,
como sentarse en un círculo, aprender
las letras, los números, las formas, las
secuencias, les brindan las bases para su
éxito futuro en la escuela.

nos llevó a Denver Preschool Program
(DPP). Todas las familias pueden beneficiarse con el apoyo económico en este
momento.

DPP tiene un impacto en el

desarrollo académico y socioemocional durante el año de
preescolar, con beneficios observados como superiores y más
allá de lo que se esperaría en
comparación con el desarrollo
normal.

en cuanto a ingresos o idioma.
DPP está aumentando el acceso

Casi un tercio de los padres de
DPP encuestados indicaron que
no hubiesen inscrito a sus hijos
en el preescolar si DPP no les
hubiese dado el crédito para el
pago de la educación.
Esperamos ver los resultados de los
años futuros de esta evaluación anual,
que nos dará la oportunidad de repetir estos resultados como así también
de seguir a los niños de la muestra de
la evaluación en 2008-2009 cuando
entren a la escuela primaria y más allá.
