INTRODUCCIÓN
El siguiente proyecto identifica y reúne los libros de viaje de viajeros europeos
a Asia de las bibliotecas catalanas más importantes en este tipo de fondos
bibliográficos.
· El primero de ellos lo constituye la colección Eduard Toda del Archivo
Histórico de Cataluña, cuyo fondo contiene una nómina extensa y excepcional
de libros de viaje de viajeros europeos a Asia publicados entre los siglos XVII y
XX. Entre estos volúmenes, destacan las obras editadas en los siglos XVIII y
XIX, periodo por excelencia en los que se realizan y potencian un número
mayor de itinerarios. Sobresalen entre estos últimos, las obras de viajeros
españoles a Asia en el XIX y comienzos del XX.
En la Universidad de Barcelona, se encuentran las ediciones más antiguas de
los fondos bibliográficos estudiados, las cuales comprenden desde los siglos
XVI al XVIII. Destacan entre ellas, las obras de los viajeros portugueses a
Extremo Oriente.
Finalmente, en la Biblioteca de Cataluña hay que resaltar los libros de viaje
publicados en el XIX, junto con las ediciones dedicadas a la descripción de los
viajes alrededor del mundo.
· Los criterios llevados a cabo para desarrollar esta identificación son los
siguientes.
1. Agrupación de los libros de viaje por países, según el actual sistema
geográfico (a excepción de Irán, que aparece como Persia).
2. Orden alfabético de los países y, dentro de cada uno, orden alfabético
de los viajeros.
3. Los títulos de las obras no se hallan contemporaneizados.
4. Existen algunos volúmenes que se encuentran en más de una de las
bibliotecas estudiadas.
5. Se indica el número de edición de las obras, en los casos en los que
consta en su ficha bibliográfica o portada.
6. Se incluye la signatura de cada obra. En aquella que está formada por
varios volúmenes se cita sólo la correspondiente al primero. En los
casos en los que no se encuentran todos los volúmenes de una edición,
se indica el número de los que se hallan en la biblioteca.
