Enyesado en serie
El enyesado en serie es un proceso en el que se usan yesos para estirar los
músculos de la pantorrilla por cierto período de tiempo. El yeso se cambia
cada 3 a 4 días.
¿Cuánta actividad puede hacer mi niño con el yeso?
• El yeso estará listo para que pueda caminar al final de la cita de hoy.
• Durante el primer día no debe hacer mucha actividad para evitar los
dolores musculares. Sólo puede caminar distancias cortas.
• Después del primer día puede hacer mucha actividad y también correr.
• Para caminar, correr y estar de pie, debe usar el zapato para el yeso todo el
tiempo. Evitará que se resbale y se caiga.
• La primera noche a su niño le puede costar dormirse.
¿Cómo cuido del yeso de mi niño?
• Mantenga el yeso seco todo el tiempo. Si se moja cámbielo antes de que
pasen 24 horas.
• Con el yeso su niño no puede meterse en el agua ni tomar baños de tina
pero sí baños de esponja.
• Trate de evitar que su niño camine sobre charcos, pasto mojado o nieve.
• Si a su niño le da comezón o siente mucho calor en la pierna use el aire frío
de un secador de pelo.
• No meta nunca un objeto adentro del yeso.
• Evite que su niño juegue en la arena o en donde haya trozos de madera
sobre el suelo como astillas o virutas (wood chips). Si es necesario, cúbrale el
yeso con un calcetín o bolsa plástica.
• Puede decorar el yeso con marcadores permanentes o plumas.
¿Cuándo debo llamar al terapeuta o al hospital?
Llame a cualquier hora si el yeso de su niño se moja o si:
• Cojea o no quiere caminar con el yeso.
• Siente que se le entume o que le hormiguea alguna parte de la pierna
• Los dedos de los pies se le hinchan, se le ponen muy fríos o morados.
• Siente dolor en el mismo lugar y es constante; especialmente durante el día
o que no lo deja dormir a la noche.

Serial Casting
Serial casting is a process of using a cast to stretch the calf muscles over a
period of time. New casts are applied every 3 to 4 days.
How active can my child be in the cast?
• The cast will be ready to walk on at the end of the appointment today.
• Your child should not be very active the first day, this will limit muscle
soreness. They can walk short distances only.
• After the first day your child can be very active, running is OK.
• Your child must wear the cast shoe at all times when standing, walking and
running. This will prevent slipping and falling.
• Your child may have trouble sleeping the first night.

• Keep the cast dry at all times. If it gets wet it must be removed within 24 hours
• Your child cannot swim or take a bath with the cast. Give your child sponge
baths while they are in the cast
• Have your child avoid walking in puddles, wet grass or snow
• If your child’s leg is itchy or hot, try using a hair dryer on the cool setting.
• Do not stick any items down inside the cast
• Avoid letting your child play in sand or wood chips. Put a sock or plastic
bag over the cast if this is a concern.
• It is okay to decorate the cast with permanent markers or pens.
When should I call the therapist or hospital?
Call anytime the cast gets wet or if your child:

Starts limping or will not walk on the cast
Feels numbness or tingling
Has swollen, very cold or blue toes
Has pain that is confined to one area, is constant — especially during the day —
or keeps them up at night.
Who do I call?
Call the Physical Therapy Clinic at 206-987-2113 during weekday business
hours. On evenings and weekends, take your child to an emergency
department if the cast needs to be removed.
