Clifford PTO General Meeting April 9, 2015 The Meeting was called to order by Roy Dorling at 7:07 PM. The list of attendees is attached. Secretary’s Report: Carol Donnelly distributed the minutes from the March 12th General meeting. Paul Haas made a motion to approve the minutes, Kimberley Calderaro seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Treasurers Report: Heather Maire distributed the current financials and noted that on the second side she has shown the highlighted items denoting items that still need to be paid for. She also noted that direct donations were up by about $10,000 and we should end the year with approximately $150,000 in reserves. Roy explained we would like to change the bylaws so we do budget at the end of the school year versus during the summer or beginning of the year so that the budget is approved and ready to go prior to the school year starting. ELAC report Josee reported that the reading program for 2nd graders is going great and there is discussion about expanding the program for 1st and 3rd grade next year. School Site Council Shannon Cody reported that Dr. Baker will be at the next Site Council Meeting on Tuesday, April 14 in Room 27 at 6PM. He will be discussing the pros and cons of Clifford potentially becoming a title 1 school. Everyone is welcome to attend the Site Council Meetings. Volunteer Report There are many PTO positions open. A full list was sent home in the Wednesday folders last week. Please contact Roy or Josee if you have questions about any of the executive board positions or committee chair positions. Roy also noted that the next PTO meeting date is scheduled for May 14 which is open house so the meeting has been rescheduled for May 21st. PTO Budget for next year Roy reported that the PTO Executive Board is working on a budget and will seek approval at the May meeting. The preliminary budget will be posted prior to the meeting. Possible changes include reducing Rhythm and Moves from 5 days to 4 days which could save about $10,000. Roy also notes that the PTO funds art and action and marine science. Next year we will also fund $200 to each teacher for school supplies (which is not dependent on the read a thon as in years past) and we will also include a line item for $5000 to go to the library so that new books can be purchased. Fundraising Lapathon: Kathryn Snow reported that Lapathon is in full swing. A skit will be performed for the classes and she is hoping to have kids volunteer to be part of skit. She also noted that the Middle School will participate this year and they are working with student council to ensure there is staff on the field; there will also be a buddy system in place so that 8th and first graders run together to try and engage the middle school kids. Pledge forms will be out next week. Auction: Trina Licht reported the Auction will be on October 3. She passed out a sign up form so that parents can sign up to help. She also has a sponsor form, so parents can start looking for donations. Events Karen Sargis reported the Father Daughter dance will be April 10th, please volunteer if you can help! Sajana Sagar reported that the Mother Son event is coming up on May 9th -­‐ please sign up by April 15 so they have a count for Sports House. Tickets are available PTO website. Middle School Update Gaby Milani reported that the Middle school is doing a Field day on Friday April 17th.. New Business Alpa Bhas reported that the Multicultural Festival is scheduled for May 29th. Alpa also proposed that the PTO fund the festival $3,100.00. Discussion ensued and Roy adjourned the meeting at 8:09 PM.. The next PTO General meeting is scheduled for May 21 at 7pm.
