HOLY TRINITY’S FIRST LADY OF STEWARDSHIP
How does one earn this title? Ask our first lady,
Martha Brooks.
Martha has been a parishioner at Holy Trinity
for the last ninety plus years. She has the
distinction of being the first woman to be
invited to speak from the pulpit to the
congregation. What was her topic?
Stewardship!
It also helps to be the longest serving
parishioner in the parish. Martha has a long
history of serving Holy Trinity in many capacities
including: Altar Society President, Parent’s Club
President, Parish Council and Finance
Committee. Today, Ms. Brooks is a member of
the newly formed Welcoming Committee.
Martha fondly remembers her days as a young
girl attending what is now called Faith
Formation classes, her father and mother made
sacrifices to make sure that Martha and her
siblings had strong teachings in the Catholic
faith; she spoke endearingly of the priests and
nuns who instilled the convictions of sharing her
time, talents and financial resources to improve
the lives of others. She also spoke of her life as
a young mother, serving as chaperone,
volunteer and driving the nuns to and from
doctor appointments, so that her own children
could learn the importance of giving and
service.
Although she has seen many changes in Holy
Trinity, including moving from one building to
another, she still adamantly feels that one of
the best changes she has seen is the addition of
the new altar and tabernacle stand. She readily
agrees that change is sometimes hard to get
used to, but she has not regretted any that she
has been through at Holy Trinity.
As she reminisced about the past, Martha spoke
positively about the future, she admits that
presently we are in the midst of a challenge,
and she isn’t sure what the solution is to solve
our financial challenge, but whatever is done, it
must be done with all parishioners’ needs in
mind, the poor and the homeless must be
considered in all decisions. She decidedly stated
that everyone must be willing to take
responsibility in doing their share to solve the
dilemma Holy Trinity is facing today.
She thinks if we are good stewards of our time,
talents and resources we can have a faith
community that is spiritually involved, where
each person lives a richer, better rounded life,
and that Holy Trinity has a wonderful future.
“So” Martha says, “I’ve had a good life, I’ve
learned by doing and being involved kept my
mind active.”

?Como recibe uno este reconocimiento?
Pregúntele a Martha Brooks, nuestra Primera
Dama. Martha ha sido miembro de Holy Trinity
por mas de 90 años. De hecho, se distingue por
haber sido la primera mujer elegida para
hablarle a la congregación desde el púlpito. Y de
qué tema les habló? !De la dedicación y del
compromiso!
Para ganarse el reconocimiento de Primera
Dama , también le ayuda el ser el miembro más
antiguo de nuestra parroquia.
Asi mismo, Martha ha demostrado su
dedicación de diferentes maneras. A través de
los años su compromiso la ha llevado a
desempeñar varios cargos, incluyendo los
siguientes: Presidenta de la Asociación del Altar,
Presidenta del Club de Padres de Familia,
miembro del Concilio de la Parroquia y
Finanzas. Y actualmente, Martha participa como
miembro del Comité de Bienvenida. Ella
recuerda cariñosamente como cuando era niña
asistía a lo que ahora conocemos como La
Formación de Fé (Faith Formation). Como
muchos padres de familia, los de Martha
tuvieron que sacrificarse para que Martha y sus
hermanos tuvieran una formación católica
sólida. Martha también recuerda con cariño a
los sacerdotes y a las monjas quienes forjaron
en ella los principios que la han llevado a
compartir su tiempo, talento y recursos
económicos para mejorar la vida de los que la
rodean.
Cuando Martha era una jóven madre de familia,
fue chaperona y voluntaria. Teniendo como
objetivo demostrarle a sus hijos lo importante
que es dar y servir, Martha ayudaba a las
monjas, llevandolas y trayendolas del doctor.
Recordar el pasado permite que Martha vea el
futuro con optimismo. Aunque ella piensa que
nuestra parroquia enfrenta retos económicos y
no percibe una solución immediata; también
cree que encontrar una solución requiere tomar
a todos nuestros feligreses en cuenta. Tanto el
pobre como el que no tiene hogar, la solución
se encuentra en todos nosotros. Se requiere
que todos hagamos lo posible a nuestro alcanze
para resolver el dilema económico que afronta
Holy Trinity en estos momentos.
De acuerdo a Martha, administrando bien
nuestro tiempo, talento y recursos podremos
ser parte de una comunidad con fé y
compromiso espiritual. Una comunidad en
donde cada uno de nosotros vive una vida plena
y abundante. Y por lo tanto, Martha piensa que
Holy Trinity tiene un futuro prometedor y
maravilloso por delante.
Martha concluye diciendo con sus propias
palabras: "He tenido una buena vida. Aprendí
haciendo y manteniéndome involucrada mi
mente continúa alerta."
