The crewmember must certify fitness for duty prior to each flight segment. The PIC must accept FDP extensions. These two “data” driven requirements mitigate variability that could cause fatigue or excessive duty demands in actual operations. The FRMP process allows for fatigue reports to identify hazardous situations and requires the operator to conduct a root cause analysis to mitigate such unanticipated or complex interactions that can cause fatigue in practice, within the regulatory limits.
