Es fundadora de la Asociación Finlandesa de Dolor y fue Presidenta de dicha asociación entre 20002002. Su áreas de interés son dolor neuropático y cefaleas. Ha escrito numerosos artículos, capítulos de libros y editado libros en relación a esos tópicos de interés. Ella es miembro del grupo de tarea de manejo del dolor neuropático de EFNS. También, es miembro de la Autoridad Nacional de Finlandia en relación a temas médico-legales de dolor y neurología. Además, es asesora permanente de EMEA. Biography Maija Haanpää, MD, PhD, is a Consultant in Pain Management at Helsinki University Central Hospital, working currently at the Pain Clinic and at the Department of Neurosurgery. She received her medical degree from the University of Kuopio in 1985 and her speciality on Neurology from the University of Tampere in 1994. She completed her thesis on herpes zoster in 1999 at the University of Tampere. She received her Special Competence in Pain Management in 1998 and her Special Competence in Rehabilitation Medicine in 2003. Dr Haanpää is a member of several professional societies, including the Finnish Medical Association, the Duodecim Society, the Finnish Society of Neurologists, the Scandinavian Association for Study of Pain, the International Association for Study of Pain and the International Headache Society. She was among those who founded the Finnish Association for the Study of Pain (FASP) in 1996 and served as the secretary of FASP in 1996-2000 and the president of FASP in 2000-2002. She is a member of the Task Force Committees of the EFNS for The Assessment of Neuropathic Pain and for The Medical Treatment of Neuropathic Pain. Her research interests are neuropathic pain and headaches, and she has published several journal articles and book chapters. She is also interested in medicolegal issues and is a permanent expert on neurology and pain of the National Authority for Medicolegal Affairs of Finland. She is also a Permanent Assessor of EMEA.
