ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

them and offer them a place to belong even if
they don’t believe.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN... FOR RENEWALS
For all employees and volunteers
It is the responsibility of everyone — clergy,
administrators, teachers, staff, as well as all of our
committed volunteers — to help create a safe
environment for all of our children.
As part of that commitment, we are all asked to
complete Safe Environment Training once each year
(July 1-June 30). July 1 marks the beginning of the new
Safe Environment Training year. All volunteers and
staff are required to take a foundation or renewal
class by September 15th in order to continue
serving in their apostolate at Ss. Simon & Jude
Cathedral.
New volunteers need to complete the 3 hour Called
to Protect Foundation class. New volunteers may
choose to do this class at any location or you may
choose to take a class we are offering at SSJ on
Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 9:00 a.m.–
12:00 p.m. and Monday September 12, 2016 from
6:00 p.m. –9:00 p.m.
All current volunteers who have already completed
the 3 hour Call to Protect Foundation class need to
complete a renewal class. The renewal class lasts
about 30-45 minutes and volunteers may choose to
register for a class at a particular location or
complete their renewal online.
To register for either the foundation or renewal class,
please go to: www.safeenvironmenttraining.org. Click
on homepage and then online renewal. After your
class, you will have to wait for a confirmation before
logging off the site. To attend a class you click on
classes to see where classes are being given.
For further assistance, please contact Kathy Lopez,
SSJ Safe Environment Coordinator at 242-1300
Ext: 153.

A TESTIMONY FROM AN
SSJ ADORER
“If I wanted my relationships to improve
with others, it had to start with me showing
up to the One who created me and knows
my inmost being. “
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the
righteous run into it and are safe.” - Proverbs 18:10
Being in the presence of our Lord Jesus in Eucharistic
Adoration is where He has become my strong tower and safe
haven. I am grateful for the people the Lord has place in my
life that have shown me the beauty of Eucharistic Adoration.
It’s been through their witness and encouragement that I’ve
been able to take the steps in spending time with Jesus in
Adoration. One of those witnesses is our very own Sr. Gabby.
One time at a Mom’s Retreat, Sr. Gabby shared about the
importance of spending time with Jesus. Her
recommendation to us busy mother’s was to “stop in and
make a visit”. It is in making brief visits with our Lord in the
Tabernacle that it all began.
It started ten minutes here and ten minutes there
and before I knew it 10 minutes turned into 20 minutes and
then 60 minutes and eventually a commitment once a week
for an hour. All the Lord was asking me to do was “show
up”. If I wanted my relationships to improve with others, it
had to start with me showing up to the one who created me
and knows my inmost being. Spending time with the Lord in
Adoration became a safe place, where I could be free from
all the cares and worries of the world. It is the place I can run
to in the midst of fear and anxiety. It’s the place I go to place
all the prayer requests of others. As I began to show up with
Jesus, something happened, Jesus showed up to me.
Jesus calls to each one of us to “Come away with
me”. We have the greatest place to go in the very midst of
every Catholic Church. Listen to the still small voice within
and “stop in and make a visit with the Lord”. Our Lord Jesus
always calls us to himself. Are you ready and willing to say
yes to the call?
Lynn has been a wife to Peter for 21 years.
They have 3 boys and have been active at
SSJ since 1988.
We are currently in need of Adorers for the following hours:
Saturday: 12:00 midnight – 1:00 a.m.
Sunday: 12:00 midnight – 1:00 a.m.
Wednesday 2:00 a.m. - 3:00 a.m.
If you feel a tug on your heart to fulfill one of these hours,
please call the parish office at (602) 242242-1300 so we can
schedule you. You won’t regret it!

SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION

LA SOLEMNIDAD DE LA ASUNCIÓN
The Solemnity of the Assumption is the celebration of Mary
being assumed, body and soul, into heaven. As Catholics
we celebrate this Solemnity as a foretaste of our own
bodily resurrection at the end of time.
Since The Assumption (August 15th) falls on a Monday this
year, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation in the United
States. All parishioners are invited to still attend Mass
Monday, August 15th at 6:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.


“If I wanted my relationships to improve
with others, it had to start with me
showing up to the One who created me
and knows my inmost being. “
torre fuerte y refugio seguro.
