Protect Your Family Against Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Open the damper of your fireplace
before every use.

camping stove inside your home,
garage or near a window.

stovetop to heat your home.
Don’t pile snow around meters.
Snow and ice accumulation may
interfere with the operation of
natural gas meters. Use a broom
to remove snow or icicles – not
a shovel. Beware of exhaust
getting trapped by snow
around a natural gas appliance
outside vent. An obstructed
vent may cause the appliance
to malfunction as well as create
a dangerous build-up of carbon
monoxide.
If you need to warm a vehicle, remove
it from the garage immediately after
starting it. Don’t leave engine running
inside a garage, even if door is open.
Install carbon monoxide detectors for each floor of your home.
Carbon monoxide alarms are not substitutes for smoke alarms, and vice versa. Combination
smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are available.
Some symptoms of CO poisoning are similar to those of the flu. You may feel headaches, dizziness or nausea.
If you notice any of these symptoms, call 911 to report a carbon monoxide condition and trained professional
will respond to investigate. If the CO alarm sounds, immediately evacuate premises and call 911.

supported energy conservation projects.
