The program represents a remarkable opportunity to gain substantial knowledge on how the industry is growing in the Dominican Republic, the legal framework to support movie productions, and the unique landscape that the DR offers for international directors to consider as a set for their feature films. Legendary movies have filmed several scenes in the DR, such as The Good Shepherd, The Godfather: Part II, Apocalypse Now, Miami Vice, Pirates of the Caribbean, among others. The program includes visits to large filming studios, key actors in the sector, movie producers, among others. It also includes “walking lectures” to some of the most important historical places to visit in a city of many “firsts” in the Americas. The travel portion will include stays in Santo Domingo and Cap Cana. WEEK 1 WEEK 2 Day 2 - Monday UNIBE Santo Domingo Campus tour Lecture 1: Film industry and private investment in Dominican Republic, by Jorge Hazoury (Palmera Films). Santo Domingo Sightseeing Tour Day 9 - Monday Lecture 6: Acting, by Frank Perozo Study visit to Quitasueño Studios, Haina. Day 3 - Tuesday Lecture 2: Overview of the Film Industry in the Dominican Republic, by Desirée Reyes (Panamericana Films) and Che Castellanos (Quiet Island Films). Free afternoon - Suggestion: Shopping at Agora Mall (Typical Dominican food and Souvenirs at Cosas del País Store). Day 11 - Wednesday Free day - Suggestion: Enjoy the city of Santo Domingo at your own time, more at http://gosantodomingo.travel. Day 4 - Wednesday Lecture 3: Legal Framework for movie production in the DR. Study visit to Dirección General de Cine or meeting with Film Law promoters. Expectations and goals Custom designed and personalized approaches are available in order to meet different educational goals and academic profiles. When transferring credits, required equivalent hours may be adjusted depending on the specific structure of the program. Day 5 - Thursday Lecture 4: Incentives and benefits of Film Law, by Gilberto Morillo (BKT Accounting). Famous Filming scenes: Colonial City guided tour. Eligibility • Undergraduate and graduate students and professionals in film making, graphic design, advertising, animation, cinema studies and other related fields. Day 6 - Friday Lecture 5: On Dominican Films, by Archie López (Panamericana Films). Study visit to Pinewood DR Studios, Juan Dolio. • Faculty led university students groups. Program Outline Day 1 – Sunday Arrival at Santo Domingo (AILA International Airport) Day 7 - Saturday Fun Trip –One from two options available: Visit to Dunas de Baní (the only desert in the Caribbean) or 27 falls of Damajagua (extreme sports). Day 8 - Sunday Free day Day 10 - Tuesday Lecture 7 and exhibition: La Montaña, by Tabaré Blanchard at Cinemateca Nacional or UNIBE. Study visit to 4D Cinema, Colonial City of Santo Domingo. Day 12 - Thursday Transfer by bus to Punta Cana, two stops en route to visit Cueva de las Maravillas natural grottos and Archaeological Regional Museum at Altos de Chavón, La Romana. Arrival at hotel accommodations. Day 13 - Friday Free day - Suggestion: Enjoy Punta Cana at your own time, more at http://www.godominicanrepublic.com/destinations/punta-cana/ Day 14 - Saturday Free day Day 15 - Sunday Free morning Transfer to Santo International Airport. Domingo -Departure from AILA Estimated cost Estimated cost per student: USD$3,000*. It includes registration, lectures and study visits, lodging**, ground transportation, and all program related tours and excursions. *Budget was prepared based on a minimum of 10 participants.
