From here one has a perfect view of the mountain range and beautiful scenery below. 14:00 h: Lunch in a typical restaurant at Fuente Dé, Espinama. 16:30 h: Visit to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery and Potes Village*: Three kilometers from Potes, in a amazingly beautiful, natural scenery, the old monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana is principally known for its keeping the Lignum Crucis relic, the biggest remaining fragment of the Cross of Christ. The relic belonged to a kind of cypress charasteristic of Palestine which could be 2,000 years old. The relic was brought from the Holy Land by Santo Toribio, bishop of Astorga in the 5th century of our age. The monastery, at first called San Martin de Turieno, was founded by another Santo Toribio, bishop of Palencia. The legend tells that Santo Toribio decided the location of the Monastery climbing up the summit of La Viorna mountain and throwing his staff down to the valley saying:" Where my crossier falls, there will be my home From the 16th century Santo Toribio de Liébana shares with Rome, Jerusalem and Santiago de Compostela the privilege of the Jubilee Year.
