God has revealed Himself as three Persons in One God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In our human mind, this is very hard to comprehend because metaphysics tells us that a person can only exist in one being. How can there be three persons in one being? But Scriptures and Jesus Himself reveals that the Trinity is indeed a reality, especially when we hear Our Lord commission the apostles to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All of our prayers should begin and end with the Holy Trinity by the sign of the cross. When we bless ourselves with Holy Water, we do so in the name of the Trinity. When we end the decade of the Rosary, we do so by invoking the Trinity – Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever. Amen. Please take time to fill out the parish survey. It doesn’t take that long to complete it. You can do so either by using the paper surveys on the back and side tables of the church or the online survey site from the parish website. The parish website is: http://www.icjax.org. Your feedback is very important to me. Once we have compiled the results of the surveys, I will publish the results. Some time ago, I mentioned a list of projects that need to be addressed in the parish. While I know many of you are trying to help us lower the mortgage on the parish hall renovation account, and rightly so, we need to start addressing one of the projects that is most urgent. And that is the two sets of granite stairs in front of the church doors. The tiles are cracking and coming apart. A patch job is not recommended. Tile experts have highly suggested a complete replacement of all tiles in order for the stairs to last for many decades. The cost to replace all of the tiles is $35,101.00. And now some funnies: #1 – A man takes his wife to a club, and there is a guy on the dance floor rockin’ it large. Break dancing, moon walking, back flips, the works. The wife turns to her husband and says, “See that guy? Twenty-five years ago he proposed to me, and I turned him down.” The husband says, “Looks like he’s still celebrating.” #2 – A woman told the following to her friend on a phone: “I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape. So I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was love.” #3 – A businessman dragged himself home and barely made it to his chair before he dropped exhausted. His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall cool drink and a comforting word. “My, you look tired honey,” she said. “You must have had a hard day today. What happened to make you so exhausted?” “It was terrible,” her husband moaned. “The computer broke down and all of us had to do our own thinking.” #4 – Nicholas took his four-year-old son, Bryan, to several baseball games where “The Star Spangled Banner” was sung before the start of each game. One Sunday Nicholas and Bryan attended St. Bartholomew’s church service. The congregation sang, “The Star Spangled Banner.” And after everyone sat down, Bryan suddenly jumped up and yelled out at the top of his voice, “Play ball!!!” #5 – In the backwoods of Florida, Mr. Stewart’s wife went into labor in the middle of the night. The doctor was called in to assist in the delivery. To keep the nervous father-to-be busy, the doctor handed him a lantern and said, “Here, you hold this high so I can see what I’m doing.” Soon enough, a baby boy was brought into the world. “Don’t be in a rush to put the lantern down. I think there’s yet another wee one to come.” Sure enough within minutes he had delivered another baby. “Now don’t be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern, young man. It seems there’s yet another!” cried the doctor. The new father scratched his head in bewilderment and asked the doctor. “Do ya think it’s the light that’s attractin’ them?” #6 – A man buys a parrot, only to have it constantly insult him. He tries everything to make the parrot stop, but nothing works. Frustrated, the man puts the parrot in the freezer. After a few minutes the insults stop. The man thinks he might have killed the parrot. So he opens the freezer and takes the parrot out. The parrot is shivering. It stammers, “S-s-sorry for being r-r-rude. Please f-f-forgive me.” Then, after a moment, the parrot softly asks, “Just curious, but w-w-what exactly d-d-did the turkey do?” Fr. St. Damien was a selfless man who spent 16 years ministering to those who suffered from Hansen’s disease. Born Joseph de Veuster in 1840 in Belgium, Joseph traveled to Oahu in 1864 to do missionary work. St. Damien became aware that priests were needed on Molokai to help those suffering from Hansen’s disease, leprosy. He coordinated funding and medical services from Oahu. He helped raise global awareness of this disease. Most importantly, he displayed tremendous kindness, easing the suffering and treating the afflicted with the utmost respect, leaving a legacy of selflessness and compassion that the people of Hawaii have never forgotten. In 1889, St. Damien died from the disease he worked so long to treat. If you wish to register as a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, please complete the following and drop it into the offertory collection basket. Please indicate if you wish to receive offertory envelopes. “Pero nosotros, en nuestra vida, tenemos en nuestro corazón el Espíritu Santo como un ‘prisionero de lujo’: no dejamos que nos impulse, no dejamos que nos mueva. Hace todo, sabe todo, sabe recordarnos qué ha dicho Jesús, sabe explicarnos las cosas de Jesús”. Y “sólo el Espíritu no sabe hacer una cosa: cristianos de salón. ¡Esto no lo sabe hacer!”, advirtió el Pontífice. “No sabe hacer ‘cristianos virtuales’, y no virtuosos. State-sanctioned suicides in Oregon keep rising. There were 105 deaths in 2014 (44% higher than the previous year) and 132 in 2015 (another 26% higher). In each of these years, exactly one patient was under 35 years old. Last year, 78% of those obtaining lethal drugs were aged 65 and over, with a median age of 73. Most were women; most had no health insurance, or only government insurance; most had no living spouse or registered domestic partner. More than 96% received no psychological evaluation. The former Hemlock Society, now a multi-million-dollar operation called "Compassion & Choices," presents its agenda as a boon to autonomous people who live life on their own terms and want to exit life the same way to avoid intractable pain. The usual reality is different. When asked why they were obtaining the drug overdose, 96% of patients said they were less able to engage in activities that make life enjoyable; almost as many said they were losing their autonomy or their dignity; about half said they had become a "burden" on family or caregivers. Fewer than 30% cited any concern about pain. Incidentally, 90% died in a private home -- in 79% of cases no health professional was present. This profile should be eerily familiar to public health experts: it describes people most at risk of elder abuse. Basically Oregon has provided a "safe and legal" way to practice, and cover up, a most final form of elder abuse. One more demographic question: What age group in America is least supportive of legalizing assisted suicide? In many polls it is those aged 65 and over. Taken from: Life Issues Forum: The True Face of Assisted Suicide by During this Year of Mercy, the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine would like to invite all single Catholic discerning women to come and visit the Motherhouse of the Sisters located in St. Augustine, FL.
