Letter to Parents UNO

A message to parents
from educators at UNO
about our new union.
Dear UNO Parents and Guardians,
You may have heard the news that teachers and staff at UNO schools are deciding
whether to form a union, and UNO agreed to remain neutral during this process. While
this process is not yet finished, we want to share with you some of the reasons that
many of us are in favor of building a union of teachers and staff.
When this union is established, the teachers and staff of UNO schools will elect their
peers to lead this union and to represent us in negotiations with UNO management. We
will have a union contract specifically for our schools. We will become a part of Chicago
ACTS Local 4343, which brings together the unions at other charter schools. We are
excited about building a union from the ground up and having it contribute to the
success of UNO schools.
These are some of the reasons why we are building a union for us and our colleagues at
all UNO schools:
To give teachers a stronger, more unified voice in advocating for their
students and their schools.
To ensure that teachers have the support and security to focus on the
students and our profession.
To create a positive partnership between UNO and their teachers that is
necessary to create an environment where the best teaching and the best
learning can happen.
We are extremely proud to be a part of the UNO community and to support your family
in furthering your children’s education. Student achievement is the single biggest reason
why we’ve dedicated ourselves to teaching. We look forward to better partnering with
you, the parents of UNO, in working to make our school communities the best they can
be for our students.

educadores a los
padres sobre nuestro
nuevo sindicato
Estimados Padres y Tutores de Estudiantes de UNO,
Posiblemente hayan escuchado la noticia de que los maestros y el personal de UNO estamos
decidiendo si queremos formar un sindicato y UNO ha aceptado mantenerse neutral ante este
proceso. Aunque el proceso no ha terminado, queríamos compartir con ustedes algunas
razones por las cuales muchos de nosotros estamos a favor de formar un sindicato de los
maestros y demás personal escolar.
Cuando se establece este sindicato, los maestros y el personal de las escuelas de UNO van a
elegir representantes para liderar este sindicato y representarnos en negociaciones con la
gerencia de UNO. Tendremos un contrato de sindicato específicamente para nuestras
escuelas. Formaremos parte del sindicato Chicago ACTS Local 4343, lo cual aglutina los
sindicatos en otras escuelas charter. Estamos emocionados por formar este sindicato desde la
base para contribuir al éxito de las escuelas de UNO.
Estas son algunas de las razones por las cuales estamos formando un sindicato para nosotros
y nuestros colegas en todas las escuelas de UNO:
Para darle a los maestros una voz más fuerte y unida para abogar por sus
estudiantes y sus escuelas.
Para asegurar que los maestros tengan el apoyo y confianza que necesitan para
enfocarse en sus estudiantes y su profesión.
Para crear una relación positiva entre UNO y sus maestros, la cual es necesaria
para crear un ambiente que facilita la mejor enseñanza y aprendizaje posible.
Estamos muy orgullosos de ser parte de la comunidad de UNO y de apoyar a su familia en
adelantar la educación de su hijo. El rendimiento estudiantil es la razón principal por la cual
nos hemos dedicado a la enseñanza. Estamos emocionados por colaborar más con ustedes,
los padres de UNO, en el trabajo de asegurar que nuestras escuelas sean las mejores posibles
para nuestros estudiantes.
