Davy College tiene la suerte de ser Centro
Evaluador Cambridge de idiomas. Sería
bueno si los estudiantes comenzasen a
obtener estos certificados en los exámenes de
idiomas Cambridge, ya que esta es una
manera de asegurar que el nivel de Inglés sea
cada vez mejor. Los principales exámenes son
KET (prueba Inglés Key, grado 5), PET
(Prueba de Inglés Preliminary, grado 6) y FCE
(Primer Certificado en Inglés, grados 8 o 9). A
su vez, los alumnos de Primaria son atendidos
con los exámenes de Cambridge Young
Learners, que son Starters, Movers y Flyers,
apropiado para estudiantes en los grados 2-4.
La Universidad de Cambridge sigue el Marco
Común Europeo de Referencia, que es una
forma estándar de describir la capacidad
lingüística en todos los idiomas europeos. Por
ejemplo, A1 es un principiante, y C2 es un
usuario competente. B1 significa usuario
''independiente” que cubre a los exámenes
PET y FCE. Algunos estudiantes en Davy ya
han obtenido el CAE (Cambridge Advanced) y
algunos también han obtenido el CPE
(Proficiency). Felicitaciones a ellos, ya que
son el camino a seguir!
Pero lo que es interesante, es que los
resultados de los exámenes se superponen el
uno del otro. Por ejemplo, un estudiante que
toma el examen PET, y lo pasa con Merito,
podría ser considerado por haber alcanzado el
nivel C de FCE.
En Europa, los estudiantes tienen que tener
estos certificados de inglés para avanzar en
sus carreras o en el trabajo. Ellos toman los
exámenes muy en serio, y constantemente
tratan de avanzar al siguiente nivel. Sin
embargo, aquí en Davy College, no todos los
estudiantes tienen la misma ambición. Así, la
posesión de un certificado es muy importante
en estos días, ya que verifica el nivel de Inglés
que uno tiene.
Los costos de los exámenes de idiomas
Cambridge en el Davy College son
aproximadamente un tercio menos que los
costos en Lima. Esperamos que este año el
número de candidatos se incremente. Sin
embargo, es importante obtener una
calificación suficiente en el examen simulacro
para que se refleje también en el examen
formal en noviembre.
Vivimos en un mundo competitivo. Los
estudiantes del Davy tienen una buena
oportunidad de demostrar su nivel de idioma
Inglés con los exámenes de Cambridge. Se
espera que aprovechen esta oportunidad en
número creciente.

Davy College is fortunate to be a Cambridge
centre of language examinations. It would
be good if students started to collect passes
in the Cambridge language examinations,
as this is a way to ensure that the level of
English is increasing. The main
examinations to pass are KET (Key English
Test, grade 5), PET (Preliminary English
Test grade 6) and FCE ( First Certificate in
English, grades 8 or 9). The students in the
Primary School are served by the
Cambridge Young Learners examinations,
which are Starters, Movers and Flyers,
appropriate for students in grades 2 - 4.
Cambridge University follows the Common
European Framework of Reference which is
a standard way of describing language
ability across all the European languages.
For example, A1 is a beginner, and C2 is a
proficient user. B1 means ´independent
user´ which covers the PET and FCE
examinations. Some students in Davy have
already gained the CAE (Cambridge
Advanced) and a few have also gained the
CPE (Proficiency). Congratulations to them,
since this is the way to go!
But what is interesting, is that the exam
results shade into each other. For example,
a student who takes the PET examination,
and achieves a Distinction pass, would be
judged as having reached the FCE level C
pass.
In Europe, students must have these
English certificates to advance their careers
in study or in work. They take the exams
very seriously, and constantly try to advance
to the next level. However, here in Davy
College, not all students have the same
ambition. But the possession of a certificate
is very important these days, since it verifies
the level of English possessed.
The costs of the Cambridge language
exams in Davy College are about one third
less than the costs in Lima. We are hoping
this year that the number of entries will
increase. However, it is important to gain a
sufficient grade in the mock examination to
be put forward for the examination in
November.
We live in a competitive world. Davy
students have a good opportunity to
demonstrate their English language level
with the Cambridge exams. It is hoped that
they will take this opportunity in increasing
numbers.
