IRREGULAR COMPARATIVOS AND SUPERLATIVOS: Two other

Comparativos :To compare one thing or person with another. We add “er” to adjectives in English or put the word “more” in front of longer adjectives .
In Spanish we put the word más in front of the adjective or adverb and follow it with the word que (“que” here means “than”)
Pattern=subject+verb+más+adj./adv+que+subject
Ex: He is nicer than his brother.
El es más simpatico que su hermano .
Ex: Elena is taller than her mother.
Elena es más alt a que su madre.
Ex: The dogs are smarter than the cats.
Los perros son más inteligentes que los gatos.
Superlativos : It is used to Express the “most”. In English we use “est” added to the adjective or adverb. In Spanish we use the definite article (el, la, los, las) plus más with the adjective or adverb followed by the word “de”.
Pattern: subject + verb+(el, la, los, las )+ más +adj/adv.+ de+ subject (“de”=of the or in the…)
The article (el, la, los, las) agrees with the first subject.
Ex: He is the nicest person of all.
El es el más simpatico de todos.

Exs: Thomas is a good student.=Tomás es buen alumno.
Thomas is better than me.=Tomás es mejor que yo.
Thomas is the best student in the class.=Tomás es el
mejor alumno de la clase.
Two other irregular adjectives are mayor and menor. They often refer to age.
Ex: My sister is older than Paco.= Mi hermana es mayor que Paco.
My brothers are younger than Adela.= Mis hermanos son menores que Adela.
