Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés Demonstrative and possessive adjectives Demonstrative Adjectives What is an adjective? The Oxford´s dictionaries, define an adjective as a word or phrase naming an attribute, added to or grammatically related to a noun to modify or describe it. In simple words adjectives modify and describe nouns and pronouns. There are different kind of adjectives in English, but for this week´s lesson we will only explore two. We use demonstrative adjectives to show where people, animals or things are located. The Oxford´s dictionaries establish that they are used to indicate their referent's location (spatially, temporally, or abstractly) in relation to the discourse context. ©Unidad de e-Learning 2015 1 Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés I will explain you how to use them in an easy way (this) "This is an apple" Use "this" to talk about things that are near (=here) singular I will explain you how to use them in an easy way (that) "That is an apple" Use "that" to talk about things that are far (=there) singular ©Unidad de e-Learning 2015 2 Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés I will explain you how to use them in an easy way (these) These are apples Use "these" to talk about things that are near in plural I will explain you how to use them in an easy way (those) Those are apples Use "those" to talk about things that are far in plural NOTE : Listen to audio on the platform for better understanding ©Unidad de e-Learning 2015 3 Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés Possessive pronouns We already know what an adjective is, and in this part of the lesson we will learn how to use the possessive ones. Ceri Jones, one of the writers of the New American Framework book, level 1A explains that use possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) before the noun to show possession. e.g. my brother, his father, her house, their car The use of this words (possessive adjectives) before the nouns, is the same as to use (´s), and you must remember this because it was explained in the first lesson of the current unit. e.g. this is my father´s sister this is his sister (the sister of my father) this is Jo´s best friend, Tony this is his best friend (the best friend of Jo) ©Unidad de e-Learning 2015 4 Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés Go to the links and practice Link 1 Possessives http://www.agendaweb.org/exercises/grammar/possessive/adjectives-3 Link 2 Possessives http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=712 Link 3 Possessives http://home.nordnet.fr/~rmaufroid/pupitre/un_peu_de_grammaire/hisher.htm Link 4 Demonstratives http://www.agendaweb.org/exercises/grammar/demonstratives/this-thatDemonstratives Link 5 Demonstratives http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=1941 ©Unidad de e-Learning 2015 5 Session 2 – Unit 2 – Inglés Actividad de la Sesión Actividad Instrucciones Nombre de la actividad This are my best friends Tipo de actividad Individual Objetivo Indicar el uso de adjetivos demostrativos y posesivos mediante ejercicios escritos demostrando el nivel de aprendizaje alcanzado Instrucciones Redacta 3 párrafos pequeños (mínimo 5 líneas cada uno, letra Arial 12) describiendo a tres de tus mejores amigos utilizando adjetivos demostrativos y posesivos en cada uno, subráyalos o resáltalos y agrega una foto en cada descripción y Ej: This is my best friend, her name is Sandra; her mother´s name is Pricila… Envía las descripciones en un documento PDF y agrega al final las evidencias de los ejercicios en línea correspondientes a la semana actual mediante el uso de capturas de pantalla.
