Description:
History of the plantation:
Raúl Manueles was only 14 years old when started to product coffee, as he needed financial
incomes to help his family.
After a few years when he got married, he moves from Marcala on the outskirts of Chinacla. At
that time that he planted and was the owner of his own coffee farm. But the costs were then too
much important and he was forced to return to work for others.
For business reasons in 1992, he moved from Chinacla to a village called “Dulce Nombre de Jesús”.
Raúl became the manager of the drying area in a coffee wet mill. There he had the opportunity to
buy some areas and to apply the knowledge that he had been acquiring during his life to product
coffee of Catuai variety.
Agronomic Control:
After the end of the crop in May, we start pruning and thinning. The farm is thus cleaned
manually.
Some years, depending on the analysis and acidity of the soil, lime can be applied. Then, one
month later, started the first of three fertilizations matter to the soil, partly made of especially
coffee pulp.
Grain processing:
The harvest begins in December and can last until April. Raúl can use of the facilities provided by a
collaborator to make the whole coffee process. It is a mixed process as the coffee is washed,
mechanically pulped and washed again in dedicated corridors after 14 hours of fermentation in
batteries. It is then dried and stored before starting the cupping of the different lots.
