Publications Headquarters The Geological Society of Spain publishes several journals with wide distribution, not only in Spain, but also in Latin-American countries. (+34) 923 294 752 E-mail: sge@usal.es Serial journals are Geogaceta and Revista de la SGE, both biannual. Geogaceta publishes work presented by members at the biannual scientific meetings. These are short articles and their editorial process is quite fast. Revista de la SGE publishes longer articles with a wider and/or regional focus. SGE members receive both journals for free. Geological Society of Spain The Geological Society of Spain was founded in 1985 with the main objective of strengthening and promoting the Geological Sciences among all scopes of society. The Geological Society today has around one thousand members. Non-serial journals are Geo-Temas, with cong re s s a n d m e e t i n g abstracts, and Geo-Guías, with fieldtrip guides. www.sociedadgeologica.es Information and subscriptions: www.sociedadgeologica.es Objectives According to its statutes, the objectives of the Geological Society of Spain are: s To promote, encourage and expand the knowledge and applications of geology s To advise and consult on geological issues, from the scientific and educational point of view, to all those institutions requiring it. s To represent the scientific interests of the geological community at international level. Working groups Currently the working groups active within the Geological Society of Spain are: Tectonics, Stratigraphy, Geological Heritage, Geochemistry, History of Geology, Palaeomagnetism, and Volcanology. Their functions are: s To promote knowledge of the geology of Spain by means of fieldtrips and other activities. s To organize thematic meetings and congresses. s To organize national and international working groups and networks for the scientific advancement of the different areas of geology, and for their promotion in scientific, administrative, professional as well as educational organizations. Activities The main activities of the Geological Society of Spain are: s To organize bi-annual scientific meetings, where specific works are presented and discussed, later to be published in Geogaceta. s To promote the organization of the Geological Congress of Spain every four years. s To organize meetings and congresses through the different working groups. s To cooperate with other scientific, educational and related organizations. s To promote popularization of geology and related public outreach activities.
