EXERCISE N#4 LETTER David Martinez Chief of Staff EUPROFOR Chief of Staff Aid for Africa (EU) PO BOX 378 Paris Dear Sir, First of all I´d like to introduce myself. I´m David Martinez and I´m the responsible for all the personnel, support and services for the European Union organization “Aid for Africa”. This letter is written with the intention of notify you, as soon as possible, which is the precarious situation that we´re living here in Kampala. We´re expecting some important problems with the contractor “Ramiro Hackett”. As you already know, they are contracted for serving on a daily basis the meals for all the personnel assigned to Camp Stone (Kampala). The contract agreed with the supplier is really clear and it establishes the food quality and quantity. This terms are broken systematically by the supplier. The food quality is really poor and the quantity is ridiculous. Moreover, the timetable is not respected, the mess hall opens late everyday. This problems were detected some days ago and I tried to solve them speaking personally with the Company Director. The justification he gave to me is that they´re suffering a lack of staff. At least a 60% of workers left the company due to the low wages. In my opinion the Company was able to predict this situation. The local workers they employ tried to negotiate their contracts but the Company refused several times. The situation is getting worse every day; the staff we have deployed here need an effective Company to manage the Mess Hall. It´s mandatory to rescind the contract with Ramiro and Hackett and to make a new contract with another company Respectfully Comentario Sería conveniente que se incluyera alguna hipótesis (tarea del nivel 3), tal como se sugería en las instrucciones. También convendría intentar usar los hechos que se mencionan como parte de los argumentos a favor de su opinión, porque si Comment: Omitir “the”, nunca se pone en “to be responsible for”. Comment: “of informing you” Tras preposición distinta de “to” casi siempre va gerundio. Comment: “about the precarious…” Comment: “We are afraid we will have some…” = Nos tememos que tendremos…. Comment: “they are hired” Comment: “to serve the meals for all the personnel …. on a daily basis” Comment: “and its quantity” Comment: “These terms have been systematically broken…” Comment: “These problems”, “these” plural, “this” singular. Comment: Omitir “to”. Comment: “of the workers”, con “the” porque introduce un concepto determinado.
