Welcome to Room 12B (Mrs. O’Hara’s 1st -2nd MD class)
In Room 12B, students learn math and language arts through centers and
hands on activities. The students know their routine and have grown so
much since they entered my room in September. I set expectations in
September for them to learn to read. That is exactly what they did. All
students are reading. I had students who only knew 10 Fry Words and now
know 100 or more Fry Words. Most students came in mostly reading Level A
– B books and now reading Level C – G. Few entered nonreaders and now
are using the Reading Milestone series to read books. Students loved
learning using the props to learn the Letterland characters and sounds.
Now, they are beginning to blend using the rollercoaster model to sound
out words. Each literacy center builds off the next to show the success my
classroom has had. During math centers, students rotate as well. Students
are able to demonstrate and build off their mathematical skills to complete
task independently. We end each week with a fun Friday. Students are able
to play both literacy and math games to show their weekly success. During
the summer, we have been enjoying hands on cooking activity. So far, we
have made English muffin pizzas and ice cream graham sandwiches. We will
be making smores, fruit salad and more. I am very proud of the students in
Room 12B and it shows on their face.
At Lakewood High School, Ms. Anen’s 2016 ESY program is off to a great
start. We are enjoying the new faces in are classroom, as well as new
opportunities the ESY program offers. We working very hard on Istation
reading program and enjoying the vocational skills we are exposed to in
the summer. The vocational skills we are working on: cleaning the
cafeteria, packing the ESY lunches and working in the garden.

M. is one student whose progress this year highlights the hard work and success of the LECC team.
M. is an adorable, interactive, and fun loving girl in Ms. Goldman’s class. At the beginning of the year she had a
hard time keeping a calm body when trying to learn and interact with her peers. She also could not form any prewriting strokes, color, manipulate fasteners on her clothes, or even use 2 hands consistently in an activity. With
adaptations in her classroom environment and work on her vestibular system, strength and body awareness, she
now is able to navigate her classroom with more stability and maintain a calmer body to participate in her learning
and play. With focus on her underlying skill deficits and integration of strategies in classroom she can now make a
circle, string beads, fasten and unfasten buttons and color a picture with attempts to stay within the border. M. is
even beginning to make a cross, dress herself and use regular scissors to cut paper! We are so proud of her!
Ms. Goldman carries over many hands on gross, fine and visual motor activities/strategies within the classroom to
support M’s success.






There is no rest in room 101A this summer. We are very busy, not only working on skills
previously learned, but on new skills. For example, in Math, we are doing
Geometry. We are learning about parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines (see
picture). We are also learning about angles.
In reading, we continue to learn about blends, answering yes/no sentences in complete
sentences, practicing phonemic awareness, and fry words. We just finished reading
"Bartholomew and the Oobleck". We discussed the literary elements of the story;
characters, setting, problem and solution. We will be making our own ooey, gooey
Oobleck!!!!

Our class' theme this summer was developing and expanding our love for literacy,
each week fully developing one book and basing all activities on it. This week we are reading
"Harry the Dirty Dog," by Gene Zion. In the dramatic play lab we had some stuffed dogs, a
bath tub, some bath supplies, a dog dish, a bone, dog clothing, etc., so they could extend the
theme into the play. Lab time is one of our favorite parts of the day. I utilize this time to
support and encourage higher level skills.
For most people witnessing our dramatic play lab, it may look like just a few
preschoolers having fun roll playing together. For me, I felt like this summer I was basking in
the rays of pure pride in my students' accomplishments this year. When I came to the lab I
watched in amazement how much my students have grown. The students are able to roll
play, pretend, focus, play cooperatively, and exchange ideas. All I kept thinking was the
simple thought, "Wow! I can't believe it. They can do it!" All those hours of banging blocks
together, wearing a child sized fireman costumes, and crawling on the floor like a baby with
my students has paid off. Yes, "fun and games" can lead to great things.

Bienvenido a la sala 12B (Sra. O'Hara la 1ª - 2ª clase MD)
En la Sala 12B, los estudiantes aprenden matemáticas y artes del lenguaje a través
de los centros y las practicas de las actividades. Los estudiantes saben su rutina y
han crecido mucho desde que entraron en mi salón en el mes de septiembre. Yo
establecí expectativas en septiembre para que ellos aprendieran a leer. Eso es
exactamente lo que hicieron. Todos los estudiantes están leyendo. He tenido
alumnos que sólo conocían 10 Palabras y saben ahora 100 o más palabras. La
mayoría de los estudiantes procedían en su mayoría de un nivel de lectura de libros
A- B y ahora están leyendo en el nivel C - G. Pocos entraron sin saber leer y
ahora se utiliza la serie de lectura de Millstone para leer libros. Me encantó el
aprendizaje de los estudiantes mediante el uso de los caracteres para aprender
Letter land y sonidos. Ahora, están comenzando a mezclar con el modelo del
rollercoaster para pronunciar los sonidos de las palabras. Cada uno de los centros
de alfabetización se basa en mostrar el éxito que mi clase ha tenido. En centros de
matemáticas, los estudiantes giran. Los estudiantes son capaces de demostrar y
desarrollar sus habilidades matemáticas para completar la tarea de manera
independiente. Terminamos cada semana con un viernes divertido. Los estudiantes
son capaces de reproducir tanto la alfabetización y juegos matemáticos para
demostrar su éxito semanal. Durante el verano, hemos venido disfrutando de
prácticas en la cocina. Hasta ahora, hemos hecho panecillo inglés pizzas y
sándwiches de helado de Graham. Estaremos haciendo smores, ensalada de frutas
y mucho más. Estoy muy orgullosa de los estudiantes en la Sala 12B.
En la escuela superior de Lakewood, el programa de la Sra. Anen ESY 2016 a
comenzado bien. Estamos disfrutando de las nuevas caras en el salón, así como
las nuevas oportunidades que el programa ESY ofrece. Estamos trabajando muy
fuertes en el programa istation de lectura y disfrutando de la destreza vocacional
de las cuales estamos expuestos en el verano. Las destrezas vocacionales en las
cuales estamos trabajando son: limpieza de la cafetería, empacar los almuerzos
de ESY y trabajar en el jardín.

Terapias Ocupacionales en LECC
Durante sesiones de OT, trabajamos duro para ayudar a los estudiantes a adquirir las habilidades que necesitan para
participar mejor en su entorno escolar. Estamos en constante colaboración con todos los miembros del equipo,
prestar atención al desarrollo único de cada niño, y enfocarnos en mejorar…
• Núcleo sensorial y motor de fuerza en la parte superior del cuerpo

M. es un estudiante cuyo progreso este año pone de relieve el trabajo duro y el éxito del equipo LECC.
M. es una adorable, interactiva y divertida niña amada de la Sra. Goldman's class. A comienzos del año tuvo un
tiempo difícil en mantenerse quieta cuando intentaba aprender e interactuar con sus compañeros. Ella también no
podía formar cualquier pre-escrito de trazos, color, manipular los sujetadores de su ropa o, incluso, usar las dos
manos constantemente en una actividad. Con adaptaciones en su aula y trabajando con su balance, la fuerza y la
conciencia corporal, ahora ella es capaz de desplazarse por su aula con más estabilidad y de mantener una postura
corporal más calmada al participar en su proceso de aprendizaje y de juego. Con el enfoque en la deficiencia de sus
habilidades subyacentes y la integración de las estrategias en el aula ella puede ahora hacer un círculo, una cadena
de perlas, abrochar y desabrochar botones y colorear una imagen con los intentos de permanecer dentro de las
fronteras. M. está comenzando a hacer una cruz, vestirse ella sola y utilizar la función normal de las tijeras para
cortar el papel! Estamos tan orgullosos de ella!
La Sra. Goldman utiliza diferente tipo de actividades/estrategias dentro del aula para apoyar el éxito de m.
• Práctica de trazo de Pre escritura en una variedad de medios- tablero blanco, crema de afeitar
•Habilidades Visuales - Rastreo de cartas con sus dedos
• Fortalecimiento de los movimientos de los dedos- pelotas koosh, tenazas, pinzas, play doh
• sentados y escalada permanente a lo largo de muchos tipos de superficies para promover su fuerza central y
estabilidad del tobillo



No hay descanso en la habitación 101A este verano. Estamos muy ocupados,
no sólo con el trabajo sobre las habilidades aprendidas previamente, pero en
nuevas habilidades. Por ejemplo, en Matemáticas, estamos estudiando
geometría. Estamos aprendiendo acerca líneas perpendiculares (ver foto) y
paralelas que cruzan. También estamos aprendiendo acerca de los ángulos.
En la lectura, seguimos aprendiendo sobre fusiones, contestar sí/no hay
oraciones en frases completas, practicando la conciencia fonémica, y freír las
palabras. Acabamos de terminar de leer
"Bartolomé y el Oobleck". Hemos discutido los elementos literarios de la
historia; personajes, contexto, problema y solución.
Estoy muy orgulloso de todos mis estudiantes!!!!!!

El propósito del equipo de verano fue desarrollar y expandir nuestro amor por la
alfabetización, cada semana hacemos el desarrollo completo de un libro y basamos todas
las actividades en este. Esta semana estamos leyendo “Harry el Perro Sucio” por Gene Zion .
En el laboratorio de juego dramático tenemos un montón de perros de peluche, una bañera,
algunos suministros de baño un plato, un hueso de perro ropa etc. para ampliar el tema
jugando. El tiempo de laboratorio es uno de nuestros favoritos del día. Quiero aprovechar este
momento para apoyar y fomentar las habilidades de nivel superior.
Cuando llegué al laboratorio miré con asombro cuánto mis alumnos han crecido. Los
estudiantes son capaces de jugar cooperativamente e intercambiar ideas. Todo lo que vino a
mi mente fue” WOW NO LO PUEDO CREER” “Ellos pueden hacerlo” ahora cuando en algún
momento vengan a mi aula y nos vean golpeando algunos bloques juntos o quizás un maestro
vistiendo un traje de bombero para niños. Usted comprenderá y sabrá que la diversión y los
juegos pueden llevar a grandes cosas.
Para la mayoría de la gente presenciar el juego dramático de nuestro laboratorio, puede
parecer solamente un poco de preescolares divirtiéndose y jugando juntos. Para mí, sentí
que en este verano estuva disfrutando los rayos de puro orgullo en mis alumnos y sus logros
de este año
