Letter to be read and/or published in conjunction with the Good Friday Collection,
March 25, 2016.
Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,
For 800 years the Holy See has entrusted the Franciscans with the care of the Holy Land
for the benefit of the Christians that live there and for pilgrims that come from around the
world. With the ongoing political unrest in the Middle East, our support is necessary to
help meet the needs of both pastors and the faithful that struggle daily to survive.
On Good Friday the Church will respond to the needs of the Holy Land through the Good
Friday Collection. This collection will help sustain the mission of the Franciscans in their
care for the Christian people and the Holy Places. Last year your donations supported 29
parishes and over 100 men preparing to be priests or brothers. It also provided senior care
facilities in Bethlehem and Nazareth, almost 400 homes for Christian families and
created over 1,500 jobs.
As we gather around the Cross of Christ on Good Friday, let us be conscious of being
together in mind and heart with these brothers and sisters. Please be as generous as
possible and ensure Christianity will remain in the Holy Land.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
Por 800 años la Santa Sede ha confiado en los Franciscanos para el cuidado de Tierra
Santa, para el beneficio de los cristianos que viven ahí y de todos los peregrinos que
llegan de todas partes del mundo. Con la continua inestabilidad política en el Medio
Oriente, nuestro apoyo es necesario para ayudar atender las necesidades de ambos, el
clero y los fieles que sufren día con día para sobrevivir.
Este Viernes Santo la iglesia responderá a las necesidades de Tierra Santa por medio de
la Colecta de Viernes Santo. Esta colecta ayudara a sostener la misión de los
Franciscanos, de cuidar del pueblo Cristiano y sus lugares Santos. El año pasado sus
donaciones apoyaron 29 parroquias y más de 100 hombres en preparación para
sacerdocio. También construyeron Asilos de Ancianos en Belén y Nazaret, casi 400 casa
para familias Cristianas y género más de 1,500 trabajos.
Y ahora que nos reunimos en torno de la cruz de Cristo en este Viernes Santo, seamos
conscientes y estemos juntos en mente y corazón con nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Por
favor sean generosos y aseguremos que el Cristianismo permanezca en Tierra Santa.
