Las canteras fueron penetradas por la población local, que se
entregaban en el trabajo de campo por las fisuras abiertas o a
veces no delimitadas. Entre vagones y rieles, andaban en este
mundo rocoso. Muchos excavadores vienen de una tradición
rural en la que aprendieron a amar la tierra, pero después
tuvieron que aprender a resistir a la piedra. Los excavadores son
artesanos, hombres que salen del agujero blanco, hombres del
polvo, hombres de la detonación, hombres del corte.
The quarries were penetrated by the local people, who very
early indulged into the ground work, by blasting open fissures
sometimes with no safety measures. Among wagons and rails,
they walked this rocky world. Many quarrymen come from a
rural tradition where they learn to love the land, but after that land
has been taken from them, they had to learn to resist the stone.
Quarrymen are craft workers, men who come out of the white hole,
men of dust, men of the detonation, there are men of work.
