So let´s start step by step Airways Open. Be sure to see if the person is breathing. Can I hear the breath? Is the victim's breath uneven? Put the victim to help keep airways clear and accessible. Breathing Restored. An unconscious victim will breath better if he or she is in the safety position. A conscious victim will do better either sitting up or semireclining. Calm victim to prevent emotional breathing problems such as hyperventilation. Circulation Maintained. Checking for a pulse is as crucial as making sure the victim can breathe. Take the injured person's pulse. If you can't find a pulse, begin CPR if you are trained and certified to do so. If not, do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and scream for help.
